Michael A. Nelson March 23, 1945 - November 15, 2024 Michael A. Nelson, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, went home to meet his Heavenly Father on Friday November 15, 2024, at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thorwald and Jane Nelson and his grandson, Thalen Nelson. Mike was born and raised in the Twin Cities and graduated from Alexander Ramsey high school before enrolling at the University of Minnesota. After two years of college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served proudly while stationed in Germany. His service was a defining part of his life, and he was grateful for the opportunity to serve his country. On November 16, 1968, Mike married Kathy, the love of his life, and together they built a beautiful family. They raised their three children in Mankato, Minnesota, where Mike worked in sales for over 40 years. His career spanned several decades, but it was his role as a faith filled and devoted husband, father and grandpa that truly defined him. He was a constant source of support and love for his family, and he found great joy in watching them grow. Mike had many passions in life, including reading, listening to music, and watching sports. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He was especially proud of his seven grandchildren, whom he adored. Mike was a constant presence at their events, offering support and encouragement no matter the activity. His love for them was immeasurable, and he always took great pride in watching them flourish. Mike is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathy; his children, Derek (Stacy) Nelson, Danielle (JR) Werbick, and Darin (Connie) Nelson; his grandchildren, Raya, Meghan, Nikolina, Lochlan, Samantha, Elayna, and Grady; his brother, Randy (Nancy) Nelson; his nephews, Jacob and Matthew; and many other relatives and friends. His kindness, warmth, and generosity will be deeply missed. Mike's legacy of faith, love, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Service will be held at Grace Church on Tuesday, November 26th. Visitation will be at 1pm followed by a celebration of life at 2pm. Refreshments to follow.
