    Michael Joseph Melek

    November 29, 1946 - May 6, 2022

Michael Joseph Melek, loving husband, father, and grandfather on Friday, May 6, 2022, passed away at the age of 75 after a courageous and hard fought 18-month battle to recover from Covid-19. Mike was born on November 29, 1946, in Northeast Minneapolis. He married his wife Linda (Walseth) on February 3, 1968. With his roots planted in Northeast Minneapolis, Mike left home to serve his country as a U.S. Marine Corporal in Vietnam. "The Few, The Proud" became a lifelong mantra. Mike was a proud Edison High School Class of '64 alum, but there was no greater pride than what he took in his children and grandchildren. Mike began as a proud hockey & softball dad for his two children, then it swelled to a whole new level as his five grandchildren excelled in both athletics and academics. As consummate storyteller and inclusive host, Mike's pride was shared with friends and strangers alike. Whether it be a family dinner, holiday gathering, golf outing at Manitou Ridge or poolside in Zihuantanejo, Mexico, Mike always had a seat saved at the table for you. "Enter with a happy heart, may all who enter as guest, leave as a friend." Mike was preceded in death by his wife Linda, his father Michael, mother Dorothy, and sister Janet (Bader). He is survived by his two children Tricia Domagall (Jim) and Chris (Annie), and his grandchildren Caitlyn, Michael, Gretchen, Josephine, and Abraham, nieces and nephews, Tami, Julie, Michelle, Tony, Ryan, and Dan plus many more family and friends. Heartfelt thanks to the "Golden" care team at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. Private interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation 4-7PM Monday, May 23 with memorial service at 5PM all at Washburn-McReavy Northeast Chapel.
