Marion Louise Johnson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Marion Louise Johnson, age 92 of Minneapolis, passed away at home surrounded by her children on May 28, 2022. Preceded in death by parents, Mary and Palmer and Grandson Jonathan. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, John W. Johnson, Children: Daniel (Terri), Karen (Richard) and Nancy. Grandchildren: Aaron (Jessica), Daniel (Breanna), Christopher, Jordan, Johnna and Meredith (Steven). Great granddaughters: Eloise and Baby Girl (due in October). Marion was born at the start of the depression and grew up in Minneapolis. She was a proud graduate of Minneapolis Central High School and a member of Central Lutheran Church. She attended Gustavus Adolphus College then transferred to the University of Minnesota where she graduated in 1951 with a degree in elementary education. During her career, Marion loved teaching 1st and 2nd graders. She thought there was no greater gift than teaching them how to read. Even after leaving the classroom, she was a lifelong teacher, as well as a lifelong learner. After Marion and John were married, they searched for a new church home. They fell in love with Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, joined in 1960 and became active members. Marion was a Sunday school and confirmation teacher, helped with all the choirs and attended church every Sunday to worship and watch her children and grandchildren sing. She was instrumental in starting the handbell choir and rang bells for 20 years. Marion and John also spent time at their beloved Cathedral of the Pines Camp. Marion supported everyone and played a critical role with John's political aspirations. Together, they built an apartment management business that she managed while her children were in school. She kept busy, mostly loving, supporting, and helping them with their many interests. Becoming a grandmother was her greatest joy. She had a deep bond with her grandchildren and treasured every moment she spent with them. On Marion's many adventures, she developed lifelong friendships. While traveling throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and the Americas, she met the Pope, presidents, and rubbed elbows with many other elite individuals. But mostly, she loved getting to know the servers at her favorite restaurants or striking up a conversation with anyone she met because she cared about everyone. She wanted to know YOU! Marion was a sweet, classy, well- read lady. Her soft tone, humbleness and hospitality will never be forgotten. She was a role model to many and a woman of strong faith. We will forever feel her unconditional love. Our family would like to thank The Plan by Design angels for their attentive, gentle, and loving care they gave to Marion in her last weeks. You will always be remembered fondly. The family suggests memorials to the following organizations in lieu of flowers: Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, Normandale Community College Foundation, Gustavus Adolphus College, or the Minnesota Lynx Fastbreak Foundation.
