Margaret June Bretz

Margaret June Bretz, 87, of Bloomington, MN, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022 in hospice care at Hayden Grove assisted living facility in Bloomington, MN. Margaret was born in Mitchell Co., IA to William and Esther (Edge) Butler on March 3, 1935. She was eight of eleven children. Margaret enjoyed music from early on and played the piano and organ throughout her adult life. Margaret's one passion was gardening and was the envy of her neighbors and friends. Margaret's insurance career started at Iowa National where she was soon promoted to a commercial underwriter. She worked at a variety of other carriers and retired from RAS (Dakota Truck Underwriters). Margaret married Carlton Schultz in 1956 in Austin, MN and later moved to Minneapolis and later Bloomington where they had three children. Carl passed away in 1972. Margaret later married Karrol Bretz. They raised Margaret's three children along with Karrol's five. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Esther (Edge) Butler, brothers; Arbor, Leonard, Bill, James, and Russell, sisters; Dorothy Butler, Lorraine Nelson, and Virginia Butler. Son-in-in law, Bruce Estenson, Stepdaughter, Elaine Lewis, and grandson, Steve Schultz. Those surviving Margaret are children; Warren (Sharyl) Schultz, Jean Estenson, and Doug Schultz. Stepchildren; Gael Bretz, Liz Preston, Ken (Debbie) Bretz, and Karen Bretz. Grandchildren; Calvin and Sam Schultz, Amanda Schultz Garcia, Tom (Aliesha) Schultz, Katie Schultz, and Melissa (Josh) McHenry, Kelly and Nicole Schultz. Step-grandsons; Tim, Mark & Brett Butler, and Joe Lewis. Great granddaughters; Madison and Macy Schultz, Great grandsons; Carter Schultz (Garcia), Armani McHenry. Margaret is also survived by her two sisters Garnet and Maureece Butler. Margaret had chosen to be cremated. The family plans to lay her to rest on September 27th next to Carlton Schultz at Acacia Park cemetery in Mendota Heights, MN.
