Lovern Gust Nauss Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Nauss, Lovern "Jerry" was born near Barney, ND in 1923 on the family farm. They moved to Faribault, MN where he finished high school. He served in the 1st Infantry Division (The Big Red One) during WWII. As a Signal Corp troubleshooter, Lovern ran telephone lines to the fighting front, connecting communications to the command headquarters. Upon returning he married his sweetheart, Marian Wegner. Their love affair lasted 67 years! He earned a Master's Degree in Industrial Arts and taught in Austin for 28 years. Lovern and his family spent summers at their cabin on Long Lake in Park Rapids. Weekdays were spent remodeling or building new cabins, but most important to Lovern was his family time. He loved when family and friends would crowd around the table to play cards and games or time on the lake fishing and waterskiing. He loved the times he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Later in life he wrote a book about his military experiences. That book, Troubleshooting All the Way, is on display at the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. and at the First Division Museum-Cantigny. Lovern passed peacefully on June 7 in Park Rapids. He is survived by 4 daughters and their spouses, 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, a niece, nephews and many cousins. Lovern loved the Lord, and he loved his country. He served both. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, t2t.org. Reviewal is at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 9201 Normandale Blvd., Bloomington, Thursday, June 16th at 10:00 am. The funeral will follow at 11:00 am with motorcade to Fort Snelling at 1:00pm.
