October 19, 1925 - May 24, 2022
Lois Marie Toedter, 96, resident of Presbyterian Homes Bloomington, MN went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 24, 2022. Lois was born October 19, 1925 in Marion, ND where she lived on the family farm. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Lora Toedter, brothers Robert Toedter, John, and James Tader and sisters Margaret (Hewitt) and Barbara Toedter. She is survived by brothers David Tader, Phillip, Wendel and Dan Toedter and sisters Joy (Snyder) and Mae Toedter. Lois graduated from Marion High School in 1944 and obtained a North Dakota teacher's contract from LaMoure County. She taught in a rural school there for two years but then went on to attend Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, ID where she earned her teaching certificate in 1948. From 1948 through 1965 she taught in various elementary schools in Grants Pass, Spray and Dillard, OR. At the same time, Lois was taking courses at LaGrande College in LaGrande, OR where she received her BA in elementary education in 1956. Continuing her education by taking summer classes at the University of Minnesota, she received her MA in 1965. Lois returned to Minnesota, teaching for one year in Minneapolis followed by a 22 year career teaching reading in the North St.Paul/Maplewood School District until her retirement in 1988. Her residence was in White Bear Lake, MN. After her retirement from teaching, Lois moved to Aurora, CO and worked in her sister-in-law, Irene Tader's bookstore. In 1993 she moved to Roseburg, OR in the area where she had previously taught. She resided there until 2005 when she and her sister Margaret Hewitt returned to live together in Bloomington. In 2009 they moved to Gideon Pond retirement apartments. Margaret passed away in 2010 and Lois continued living at Presbyterian Homes until her death. Wherever she lived, Lois was always very active in her church; teaching classes, taking leadership responsibilities and wholeheartedly participating in activities. She was interested in family genealogy and travelled to Germany more than once to conduct research and meet distant relatives. When in OR, she helped care for her elderly aunts and when in MN, took responsibility for the needs and care of her parents. Lois planned and organized many family reunions and was always available to help and guide everyone she loved. Her faith in Christ gave her strength to be the steady and loving oldest sibling to her large and ever-expanding family. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2pm at Thomastown Covenant Church in Staples, MN.
