John Peder Blomlie

John P. Blomlie, age 81, passed away April 22, 2022 at home. He is survived by loving wife, Joan, daughter Beth (Jason) Hamen, stepsons Jon and Erik (Gina) Swenson, Queen Swenson, Dean Waymire, and sister Janet Starkweather; grandchildren Jaclyn, Garret, Serena, Mason, Alicia, Mitchell, Rachel, William, Gannon, and Grier. Preceded in death by parents Bill and Luciel, sisters Judy and Patty, and daughter Jennifer Waymire. Raised in Mpls, John was an All-State basketball and football player for North H.S. As captain of the basketball and football teams at St. Cloud State, he was later inducted into the SCSU Hall of Fame. He began his career teaching and coaching at Mound Westonka, leading the boys basketball team to the State Tournament in '73 and '74. His passion for motivating kids and coaches, led him to create the American Association of Youth Sports. He then successfully served as Athletic/Activities Director at Minnetonka H.S. from 1986 until retirement in 1999. John's proudest achievement was his family, whom he encouraged with positivity and laughter. Through the years he enjoyed living and boating on Lake Minnetonka, reading, and dancing with or without music. Jo hn's favorite place away from home was Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where for 35 years, he spent time with Joan playing tennis, together creating lasting memories with family and many friends. John will be missed and remembered as a strong Norwegian, a good storyteller with a great sense of humor, who loved ALL people....and a beautiful sunset.
