Jane Mathiasen Murray

Our beloved matriarch, Jane M. Murray, gained her angel wings on October 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 16, 1931, Jane spent 94 wonderful years filling the world with kindness, laughter, and joy. Known affectionately as Grandma Jane, she was truly the heart of our family. Her warm hugs, gentle spirit, and gift for making everyone feel loved and important will be remembered forever. Family was her greatest joy and her proudest accomplishment. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, James and Emily Mathiasen, and her devoted husband of 53 years, Wilbert L. "Bill" Murray. She is survived by her children James (Denise) Murray, Bonnie (Tom) O'Brien, Denise Baker, and Paul Murray; grandchildren Josh, Kristy (Chris), Jenny (Jeff), Stacy, Brittany (Nate), Lindsay (Matt), Anna (Matt), TJ, Ashley, Tyler, and Ashley; and great-grandchildren Cece, Callen, Melanie, Ryland, Natalie, Nora, Lauren, Hudson, Lucas, Charley, Fiona, and Eloise, as well as many extended family members and dear friends who loved her deeply. Born in Sioux City, Iowa, Jane graduated from East High School in 1949. As an only child, she dreamed of having a big family of her own. She married Bill in 1954, and together they spent 26 happy years in Bismarck, North Dakota, raising their children. When their family later settled in Minnesota, Jane and Bill followed, because being close to family meant everything to her. "Grandma" was her favorite title, and she cherished every moment with her grandchildren. With them, all rules went out the window-bedtimes were ignored, candy was plentiful, and tic-tac-toe games in church were encouraged. She loved outings, dance recitals, meals shared together, and any chance to spoil her grands and great-grands. To Jane, everyone she met was family. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the caring staff at Amira Choice Champlin for their kindness and compassion during Jane's final year. A funeral service celebrating Jane's life will be held on Monday, November 3, at First Lutheran Church of Columbia Heights (1555 40th Avenue N). Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with the service at 11 a.m. and a luncheon to follow.
