George Donald Gackle

Gackle, George Donald January 7, 1925 - April 25, 2022 Age 97, George passed away at his family home in Edina, MN after living a full and beloved life. Born in Kulm, ND, to George and Bertha Hildebrand Gackle, he joined the US Navy - serving on the U.S.S. West Virginia battleship during WWII. Following the war, George attended the University of North Dakota where he met and married Carol Lake. While welcoming two daughters and after moving to Minneapolis, George worked for Pillsbury and then as VP of Finance for Rahr Malting Company. He proudly retired in 1990 without having to master computers. Go spreadsheets! An all-around "good guy," he enjoyed fishing at the family cabin, hunting in Canada, cheering for Minnesota sports, bowling in church leagues, and traveling extensively with family and friends. Survived by his sister Grace Ottmar; daughters Debra Joan Gackle, Laurel Gackle Mallon; granddaughters Casey (Tim) Clem and Logan (Matt) Thibodeau; great grandchildren Samantha, Landon, Ellery, Lynnea, Olive, Vivian, Lach-lan, Jake, Brody. Visitation Tuesday, May 10, 2022 from 4-6 pm at Washburn-McReavy, 5000 West 50th St and Hwy 100, Edina. Celebration of Life, Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 11 am at Meetinghouse Church (formally Colonial Church of Edina) 6500 Colonial Way, Edina, MN. Reception following at Point of France.
