Eileen Colgan

Colgan, Eileen Kay age 59, of NE Minneapolis, MN died peacefully at 12:15 PM Monday, August 18, 2008 at Abbott- Northwestern Hospital of lung and bone cancer surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born November 9, 1948 in Peoria, IL to William Kenneth "Kenny" and Virginia "Virge" Eckley Colgan. She was raised on the family farm south of Wyoming, IL. She graduated from Wyoming High School and Marycrest College in Davenport, IA receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She dedicated 37 years in service to care for others. She was a nurse at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital for 28 years, up until the time of her illness. She worked in several departments, currently was in the Heart Cath Lab. She served on several councils to better patient care. Eileen was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Minneapolis. She was a woman of deep faith in the Lord. She was a true friend and there for you in times of need. She loved to attend cultural events in the area and dining with her many close friends. She was an avid gardener tending to her perennial flowers, sharing starter plants with friends. She loved to travel, several times to Ireland and Italy and went to Alaska in 2007. Her other interests were reading, delving into her Irish heritage, collecting stamps and coins and creating crafts through different medias. Eileen's kind, loving, caring spirit touched so many around her; she will be greatly missed by family and friends. She was a blessing to have in our lives. She is survived by a sister, Connie Colgan of Davenport, IA; and 3 brothers, Bill and Bernie (Becky) Colgan of Princeville, IL and Brian (Margie) Colgan of Ladoga, IN; nephews, Nathan and Kyle Colgan, Jason and Jeramie Krey; niece, Jeanette Grant; cousins; her aunt, Genevieve Winne of Peoria, IL; her many loving friends; and her furry cat companion, Ronie. She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and other relatives. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, the Legionaries of Christ or a mission of your choice in her honor.
