Dorothy Kubon Latterell
November 11, 1934 - April 8, 2022
Latterell, Dorothy K. (Kubon) passed away on April 8, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born on November 11, 1934, in Minneapolis to Clifford and Christine Kubon. Dorothy graduated from Mound High School in 1952. She majored in Business Administration at the University of Minnesota, where she one of only a handful of women. In 1956, she graduated with distinction and worked on the early mainframe computers at IBM. In 1957, she married David Latterell; together they raised two beautiful daughters. When the girls were grown, she furthered her education, achieving a certificate in Computer Programming from Brown Institute. She worked as a computer programmer at several large companies in the Twin Cities for 15 years, until her retirement. Dorothy was wildly intelligent, opinionated, and a life-long learner, approaching every situation and conversation with curiosity and critical thinking. She loved a spirited debate and thought-provoking reading. Beyond Dorothy's incredible mind, she loved the arts and adventure. She was a talented embroiderer and seamstress: fashioning clothes, adorning dishtowels, and reupholstering furniture. She participated in bell choir at Hennepin Avenue Methodist Church for over 10 years and was a strong supporter of acapella choral music. After retirement, David and Dorothy enjoyed travelling together. They had numerous cross-country trips to connect with extended family. Dorothy had an adventurous side; always willing to do or try anything. One of her most recent adventures at 86 years of age, was dune buggy riding with her family on the Oregon sand dunes. Dorothy was a fiercely loving, passionate, and loyal person. She loved gathering her college girlfriends for bridge, connecting with family, and asking intentional questions to everyone she encountered. She knew how to show/tell everyone around her that they were loved, rarely leaving anything unsaid and giving the best hugs. Her love and support for her grandchildren ran deep, never missing a choir concert, soccer game, or any other event. Dorothy was a compassionate and devoted Nana; a totally invested and supportive mother; and a loving and caring wife. She will be greatly missed at birthdays, holidays, events large and small, and every day in between. Dorothy is survived by David, her loving husband of 64 years, her daughters Liz Turner (Scott) and Julie Latterell (Scott Dickinson), and grandchildren Joe Turner (Kate), Amy Turner, Ralph Turner, and Katie Dickinson. Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, father, and three siblings - Shirley, Marilyn, and Bill. A celebration of life will be on Saturday, April 16, at 3:00PM at Washburn McReavy in Edina with a visitation one hour prior at 2:00PM. Memorial donations preferred to National Geographic Society nationalgeographic.org/give/more-ways/ from there, go to Honor/Memorial Giving or to Cantus cantussings.org/how-to-give/ Washburn-McReavy.com Edina Chapel 952-920-3996 West 50th St. & Hwy 100
