Dianne Theresa Kocon

Dianne "Tootie" Kocon, age 83, of Columbia Heights, MN, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home on Sunday, September 28, 2025. She was born on May 16th, 1942, to Brunis and Marcella Miskowic. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers; David, Richard, Jerry; sisters Arlene, Marilyn and Joanne. Dianne is survived and missed by Larry, her husband of 61 years; her sister Kathy (Duane) Stauffacher; sister-in-law Alice Miskowic; her children Robert (Lisa) Kocon, Deborah (Rob) Davis, Jeff Kocon (Marg Dorn), Catherine Kocon and Lisa Kocon; her grandchildren Cecilia Kocon, Sarah (Tyler) Boie and Adam (Jess) Davis; her great-grandchildren Nora, Henry, Oliver, Charlie and two more precious little ones come spring. She is also survived by many cherished family and friends. Dianne and Larry grew up together on the same block, graduated from the same high school and even worked together at the A&W on Marshall St. in NE Minneapolis. Little did they know that their childhood friendship would blossom into a lifelong marriage that started on January 18th, 1964. Dianne was a stay-at-home mom and as their family grew, they decided to build a house near their childhood homes on Main St. in Columbia Heights, MN. She made that house a home, raising her five children and being a second mom to all of their friends. She especially adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The holidays were a special time as she watched them fill the air with excitement. Dianne would also make sure that everyone always had a place at her table. Her kind and accepting nature made people feel safe and loved. Dianne also enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time at their lake place on East Battle Lake. "The Lot" quickly became a gathering spot for family outings, softball tournaments and eventually the annual two-day golf event. Her true passion, though, was gambling. You could often find her at local establishments playing bingo, pull tabs or anything she could make a bet on. If she heard someone say "Las Vegas" or "casino", it would make her light up, even if she didn't get there as often as she would've liked. Dianne will be deeply missed. Her generosity, strength and love will live in the hearts of all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Columbia Heights (4030 Jackson St NE) on Thursday, October 16, 2025. Visitation at 10:00 am with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
