Dr. Demetrio Penafiel Potente

Dr. Demetrio "Deme" Penafiel Potente, age 99, passed away on June 3, 2022 at the NC Little Hospice House in Edina, MN. Deme was born on October 8, 1922 in the Philippines to Felipe Potente and Dolores Penafiel. Deme studied in the Philippines to be a doctor. Deme served in the USAFFE (United States Armed Forces of the Far East) during World War II and then continued in medical practice for several years in the Philippines. He then came to Minneapolis, MN to further his medical education and specialize in urology. He worked as a urologist in several metro hospitals, including Asbury Methodist and Minneapolis General Hospital. He met his beloved wife, Bethel Weiss RN (registered nurse) while working in this setting. Deme and Bethel were married May 17, 1958 and enjoyed 64 years of marriage together. Later in life Deme worked in research, he and Bethel loved traveling in different countries as well as in the US. They were avid walkers and when the Mall of America opened, they were the face of the Mall Walkers group and walked over 1000 miles. Deme always wanted to learn more, reading anything he could get his hands on, studied music, history, geography, languages and current affairs among other things. He loved being with family and friends, was kind and caring of all and was so loved by all his relatives and friends. Funeral service to be held Thursday, June 16 at 11 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church, 7520 Golden Valley Road, Golden Valley. Visitation one hour prior. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
