    Cort Conway Holten

    January 12, 1950 - April 8, 2022

Please click this link to view the livestream of his service: https://mtolivet.org/livestream/ Cort C. Holten, 72, Minneapolis, passed away on April 8, 2022. Cort graduated from Montevideo Senior High School in 1968 and attended the University of Minnesota where he played Rugby and received his JD in Law in 1975. Cort was a partner at the Chestnut Cambronne law firm for 41 years, most recently serving as of counsel, as well as continuing to represent clients at Summit Government Affairs Consulting. Cort will professionally be remembered for his deep love of the law. Cort taught by example and showed many what it means to be an attorney, which for Cort involved caring deeply about the rule of law, the role of law, the role of attorneys in our system of society in general, and how the law can be developed to help people. Cort was a mentor to many lobbyist colleagues. He was so knowledgeable about the legislative process, history, and the legislators, staff, and lobbyists that worked at the Capitol. Cort was especially proud of his 25 years of representing the Minnesota Police & Peace Officers Association. Over a decade ago he was bestowed the St. Paul Police Federation Honorary Police Officer for his history of support. Cort also took pride in representing The Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association as a 35-year client of Cort's. Cort understood how important it was for Canterbury Park to remain strong. When Cort wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, relaxing at the family cabin on Lake Sorenson, golfing, enjoying good food and wine, and watching Minnesota sports. He was known as Papa and 'Cool Dude' with his granddaughters, and nieces and nephews. He will be missed dearly by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Lucille. Survived by his wife Diane, sons, Brent (Becky), Ryan (Melissa) and granddaughters Rory, Bernadette and Rayna; brother Thomas, sisters Nancy (Ed) Dack and Jane (Kevin) Myhre, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Service Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Ave S. Minneapolis. Visitation Tuesday, April 19, 2022 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Edina Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
