Carol Hemborg Nelson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Nelson, Carol Alexandria Hemborg 92, of Edina, went home to be with her Lord on July 31, 2022. She is survived by her loving children, Dirk (Laura), Heidi Graham and Elise Hay (Jim); grandchildren, Kari Kohrs (Aaron), Sonja Nelson, Devon Graham (Jeremy), Mackenzie Graham, Caleb Hay (Sarah), Peter Hay and Lydia Hay. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Ruth Hemborg, and her husband of 58 years, Gunard. Born in Los Angeles in 1930, she graduated from Hamilton High School and then from UCLA in 1951. She met Gunard at Hollywood Presbyterian Church, they were married in 1953, and then moved to Minnesota where Gunard began his medical career. Carol was a social worker for several years before they started a family and she stayed home with the children. She was a devoted mother and wife, who tirelessly served her husband, children and grandchildren in countless ways. She enjoyed hosting friends and family at the cabin in Annandale, MN and the condo on Marco Island, FL. Carol was also an avid volunteer, and she was often asked to take on leadership roles, such as Sunday School teacher, church elder, Bible Study Fellowship discussion group leader, PTA president, Habitat for Humanity family interviewer and president of the Abbott Northwestern Hospital auxiliary. Carol accepted Jesus as her savior as a young adult, and pursued Bible study and devotion to Christ her whole life. Memorials preferred to The Gunard and Carol Nelson Scholarship Fund for Pre-Med Students at Wheaton College or Habitat for Humanity. Visitation at 2:00 PM this Tuesday, August 9, Wooddale Church, 6630 Shady Oak Road, Eden Prairie, MN. Please enter door TWO. Memorial service at 3:00 PM.
