Bonnie Ruth Mattila, 83, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, surrounded by family members. Bonnie shared an extraordinary marriage of 59 years with her devoted husband, Ron-a rare and beautiful example of enduring love. Their affection and sweetness endured until the very end with kisses, laughter, and lighthearted playfulness. Bonnie and Ron lived in the same home in Roseville, MN, for 54 years. Bonnie loved and adored her family. Her oldest son, Daniel (wife Wendy), whom she described as "the apple of her eye and her heart of hearts," taught her about love through the gift of becoming her first child. During the recent passing of Dan's beloved wife, Wendy, Bonnie loved and supported him daily. Amy, her middle child, shared a rich and lifelong friendship with Bonnie. Their bond was woven through conversations of faith, wellness, and creativity. This sacred connection flowed freely between them. Suzy, Bonnie's youngest child (husband Dewey and daughters Grace, Bella, and Brooklyn) shared not only beautiful, deep brown eyes with Bonnie but also the joy and deep devotion of raising three children. Bonnie lovingly supported and guided Suzy throughout her journey as a mother. When Suzy and her family lived in North Carolina, they were blessed by Bonnie's extended stays, which filled their home with love, presence, and care. Bonnie's adoration and devotion to her granddaughters was a great joy in her life. Together, they created fairy gardens, crafted, scrapbooked, snuggled, and made memories filled with wonder and love. All who knew Bonnie saw the love of God that filled and guided her life. Her authenticity, gentleness, and kindness were apparent to everyone she encountered. Her accepting nature and warmth were felt by her family, friends, students, children, animals and often strangers. Bonnie expressed her creativity through visual beauty, especially flowers and her immaculate gardens. She spent hours barefoot, weeding and watering, immersed in nature alongside her beloved fur babies and treasured granddaughters. Bonnie's creative expressions expanded into fabrics, clothing, and crafts. She made everything from Halloween costumes to matching dresses for her daughters, and she delighted in decorating her home with handmade pillow shams and personal touches that reflected her warmth and imagination. Bonnie's career began as a teacher in Columbia Heights after graduating from the University of Minnesota - Mankato. After spending years at home with her children, she returned to work as the Director of Calvary Baptist Church's Preschool, a role she held for over 20 years. There, she shared her love with countless children and families and was affectionately known to many as "Mrs. Bonnie." Diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in 2005, Bonnie faced that battle with courage and grace-and she overcame what was once thought to be impossible. Through her unwavering faith in Christ and her determination to heal, she not only survived but thrived. Though cancer treatments left her with heart damage, her resilience carried her forward for another 20 years of full, vibrant life. Bonnie held lifelong friendships with her high school girlfriends, colleagues, and Burke Avenue neighbors. She cherished her teacher's card club and sewing club groups -connections she nurtured until the very end. Just last week, she was joyfully Zooming with her best friends. Above all else, Bonnie's greatest love was Jesus Christ-a love she lived out faithfully every day of her life. She met everyone with an open heart and encouraging words, leaving people feeling seen, welcomed, and uplifted. She loved praising God through music and saw His presence reflected in the physical world and in nature. The love and peace felt in Bonnie's presence will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Through her life, Bonnie taught us how to love and how to be loved. Bonnie often expressed her love with the words, "I love you always and forever, no matter what,"a phrase that perfectly captured her heart.
