Betty Jane Owen Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Betty J. Owen died at home on August 3rd, 2021. Betty was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and moved with her family to nearby Independence, where she skipped a grade at St. Mary's School and graduated from St. Mary's High School. She enrolled in Creighton University, Omaha, just before her 17th birthday and graduated with a degree in zoology. She was a member of Creighton's debate team. Betty was a retired new-product manager for American Guidance Services (AGS), Circle Pines, Minnesota. She was a founder and 50-year member of the West Metro Branch of the American Association of University Women for which she was serving as president, an active volunteer in youth soccer and softball in Edina, a 20-year Minnesota Master Gardener and long-time tour guide and membership-department volunteer at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. She is survived by Henry, her husband of 56 years; children, Robert (Sheila) Owen, Cathy (David) Camp, James Owen and Emily (Mike) Colestock; brother, Robert Griffle (Debbie), Lee's Summit, Missouri, and sister, Marilyn Hennis, Independence. Also five grandsons, Matt Owen, Jack Owen, Henry Camp, Walter Camp and Andrew Colestock and nieces and nephews, Jenny Urish, Kate Jones, Amy Lyon, Greg Griffle, Michael Griffle and Susan McCoy. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, August 11th with visitation one hour prior, all at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2914 W. 44th St., Minneapolis. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
