    Adolph Andrew York

    November 7, 1950 - March 27, 2022

Adolph "Al" Andrew York was born November 7, 1950 to Adolph and Connie in Jersey City, NJ. At 18, Al joined the navy. He boarded the USS Yellowstone(AD-27), stationed out of Charleston. From South Carolina, he sailed around the world: Canada, Puerto Rico, Greece, and Italy. The Yellowstone was a repair ship, he was an interior communications electrician where he learned the basics of electricity. After 4 years of service, Al returned home to Jersey. He worked as a painter alongside his brother-in-law Val for a couple of years. From there, he worked for a telephone company, hooking up bands of wire. This work experience led to his enrollment at Lyon's Technical Institute to become an electrician. While in school, he worked at the Carvel ice cream shop owned by his sister Terry and brother-in-law Bobby. He gained hands-on experience during his apprenticeships for HP Electric and Wilson Electric. His first job as an electrician was for the Fair Lawn Board of Education, servicing all the schools. At 30, he opened his own residential/commercial electrical business, Aly Electric, which thrived for 17 years. In April of 1997, Al married the love of his life, Sheri. That summer, they moved from Jersey to his bride's home state of Minnesota. That September, Marissa, the first of 2 children, was born. His second child, Andrew, would arrive 26 months later. The first couple of years in Minnesota, Al worked for two private contractors: Bavolak Electric and Owatonna Electric. In 1999, he joined the Minneapolis union, IBEW Local 292. He stayed in the union for 18 years until he retired in 2017. He enjoyed 5 years of retirement before losing his 14 month battle with pancreatic cancer. Al passed away peacefully at home on March 27, 2022. Al was a beloved husband, father, and brother.
