Zana K. Gunderson

GUNDERSON, ZANA KAE (Lundeen) age 75 of Maple Grove, MN passed away at her home on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2020. She was born in Fergus Falls, MN; the youngest of three children. When she was still a young child the family moved to New Ulm, MN where she graduated from New Ulm High School. As a young woman Zana developed a strong Christian faith that would be the basis for her career choices and prayer ministry throughout her life. Her young adult life was spent working at Broadway Designed Interiors in New Ulm. She also spent a year writing a Christian column for the North Anoka American newspaper. A lifelong career in social work began in 1981 when she accepted a job as the Southwest Area Long Term Care Ombudsman in Mankato, MN In 1980 she met her future husband, Dwight Gunderson, and they were married on January 30, 1982. They moved to Bismarck, ND where she worked as an Elderly Law Paralegal. At the age of 37, she enrolled at Mary College and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Social Work. In1983 she was hired as a Community Ombudsman Developer for the North Dakota Long Term Care Ombudsman program. In 1986 the couple moved to Sioux Falls, SD where Zana became the Director of Citizens Against Rape and Domestic Violence. In 1989 they moved to Minneapolis, MN. Zana would spend the next 20 years at Eastside Neighborhood Services developing and directing a Domestic Violence curriculum that focused on rehabilitating and educating men who had been court ordered to her program . She retired in 2010 after having trained dozens of college social work interns and helping hundreds of men through the program. Throughout her life, her Christian faith was at the center of whatever she did. Numerous friends, family members, and acquaintances sought her prayer and counsel. She was an inspiration to all of her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Luverne Lundeen and a brother, Bob Lundeen. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Dwight Gunderson; her sister Shirley Ripley and numerous brother & sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday March 20 at 2:00 pm at: Washburn McReavy Funeral Chapel: 7625 Mitchell Road Eden Prairie, MN 55344.
