William Martin

Martin, William "Bill" Bill passed away in Mesa, AZ on February 16, 2012, in his 78th year, from complications after surgery resulting in MRSA infection. He will be greatly missed by Dolores "DoDo" love of his life, best friend and devoted wife of 58 years. Preceded in death by cherished daughter, MaryJo, sister, Veronica. Loving father of Margaret Martin, Soldotna, AK; son, Billy Martin, California. Beloved grampa of Sarah Anderson and husband Craig; Meghan Biegler and husband Joe, Derek Martin and fiancee Gala of Baku, Azerbaijan; great-grampa to his beloved little girls, Paige Elizabeth and Kaylyn Anderson, and Harper Elizabeth Biegler. Also survived by much loved sisters and brothers-in- law, Mary and Don Ferris; Margaret Birkedal; Elizabeth and Larry Erickson; Helen and Ken Wing; Kathryn Engebrit; Judy and Carroll Vomhof, many beloved in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Bill was a wonderful, funny, talented, fiercely devoted, loving and caring husband, father, grampa, brother and friend to many in Minneapolis as well as in Mesa, AZ. His children and grandkids were his pride and joy. Bill was a veteran and proud of his service in the U.S. Navy. He was formerly active in his church and neighborhood politics. He was an electrician, retired after 39 loyal years. He had many interests and hobbies. He loved music, projects, books, gourmet cooking, fishing in Canada with his buddies, with his daughter in Alaska, and at Lake Mary in Alexandria. His sweet, unassuming ways made him very special and loved by all who knew him. He was the Santa Claus on "Santa Claus Lane" in northeast Minneapolis for 18 years. Each evening during the holidays he greeted families, giving candy canes to young and old. We were on the light tour route and he loved chatting with the children, boarding the light tour buses and talking with the seniors. Bill was a great guy who left us with many wonderful memories. A celebration of Bill's life will be held this Friday, May 11, 2012, at 11 AM with visitation one hour before, in the Washburn-McReavy Chapel, on the Hillside Cemetery grounds, 2610 19th Ave. NE., Mpls.
