William Grove 'Bill' Jurkens

Jurkens, William Grove "Bill" Age 88, of Eden Prairie, formerly of Edina, MN and Bloomington, MN, passed away early in the morning of April 4 2018 in Naples, FL. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marjorie "Marge" Davis Jurkens, one brother, Edward Jurkens, USAF, Retired, Honolulu, Hawaii, sisters-in-law Loney Jurkens, of Sterling, IL and Alice Jurkens of Albuquerque, NM plus several nieces nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Bert and Ida, of Sterling, IL, brothers Robert also of Sterling, and John, of Albuquerque, NM, and Frances Jurkens of Honolulu, Hawaii plus recently, one of his nephews, Jeffrey Jurkens of Madison, WI. Bill was born and grew up in Sterling, IL. He earned his Bachelors degree at Beloit College, Beloit, WI, where he met the woman who would become his wife. Upon graduation in 1953 he entered the US Navy where he sewed two years aboard the destroyer USS Warrington as Gunnery Officer. He was awarded a Commendation for Outstanding Performance of Duty after a collision with another ship on January 10, 1955. Shortly after discharge from the Navy, Bill started his business career in automatic car washing with his brother, John. Together, they owned and operated several Octopus Car Washes around the country. He was a long-time active member of the Automatic Car Wash Association, having earned several awards for Outstanding Service to the Industry, and served two years as its president. He loved traveling the world, and always sought to check off places and adventures that were on his "Bucket List". Bill was a "people person" who seemed to make friends with everyone he met. He was adored by his many nieces and nephews and happily accepted their title for him of Favorite Uncle! Bill will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched. A Memorial and Celebration of Life Service will be held July 17, 2018 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Washburn- McReavy Funeral Home, Eden Prairie, with visitation one hour prior to the service and interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery afterward.
