William John Buhl

William "Bill" Buhl August 15, 1959 - March 31, 2021 Bill Buhl, age 61, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 31, 2021 after battling with pancreatic cancer. Bill was born August 15, 1959 in Minneapolis as the second son and fourth child of Henry "Hank" and Doris Buhl. He grew up on the Mississippi River in Northeast Minneapolis, attending Holy Cross, DeLaSalle, and later Spring Lake Park High School. Some of his favorite high school memories were playing on the football team. He was so enthusiastic that people would tell him to "cool your fuel Buhl." He was such an athlete that he once biked 140 miles from Minneapolis to Browerville, MN to visit his grandparents. In addition to football and biking, he also loved to play racquetball. After school, Bill began working at Scherer Bros. Lumber Co. as a forklift driver. He was a skilled driver and enjoyed unloading boxcars during the peaceful night shift. Later, he became an insurance salesman and took great pride in serving his clients and being there for them whenever they needed him. Bill was gifted at connecting with people and was the life of the party. He was always laughing and loved games and jokes in equal measure. He could pick a cribbage hand faster than you could blink! And in the second glance he would help you count your cards so you didn't accidentally miss a point. Bill enjoyed traveling and got to explore many amazing places. Boating around the boundary waters, road trips to Colorado, hiking in Hawaii, fishing in Alaska, and cruises in Florida. The furthest from home he ever traveled was to Russia with his son, Justin and brother, Duane. With his blue jeans and camcorder in hand, he said that everyone knew he was a tourist! But one of his greatest pleasures was spending time in the great outdoors. Fishing on a lake, watching the sunset on the water, skiing on a cloudless afternoon, or cannonballing from the dock. Bill grew up on the Mississippi River and he loved water throughout his life. And Minnesota gave him a lot of lakes to enjoy. Bill had his struggles in life but he deeply loved his family and he was deeply loved by them in return. He will be missed. Bill is preceded by his father, Henry "Hank" Buhl, and is survived by his mother, Doris Buhl, his sisters, Connie Lundmark, Kathy Sweeney, and Merri Mattson, his brother, Duane Buhl, and his three children, Justin Buhl, Lindsay Buhl, and Kelly (Buhl) Schultze.
