Mr. Wayne Alan Markel

Markel, Wayne Alan 15 May 1933 - 12 September 2022 Wayne, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, died on 12 September at age 89 due to declining health. His time of trial is over. God preserved him in the faith. He now rests from his labor and is part of the company of heaven who commune on the other side of the altar. It is there, at the altar, where we will know him. The enduring Peace of Christ and hope of the resurrection to life eternal sustains our grief. He was born on 15 May 1933 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Hugh and Selma (Mueller) Markel, baptized at Trinity First Lutheran Church and confirmed at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, both in Minneapolis. He graduated from Northwood High School (Iowa) in 1951, from Valparaiso University (Indiana) in 1955, and from Northwestern University in 1956. After a year at Georg August University (Göttingen, Germany) and military service in then-West Berlin, Germany, he worked in Minneapolis at Northwestern National Life, Northwestern Mutual Life, and Aid Association for Lutherans (now Thrivent). Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Caryl, his wife of 62 years, and brother, Loren Markel. He is survived by sons Dr. Scott Markel (Danette), San Diego, California, and Jeff Markel, Goldendale, Washington; granddaughters Merritt Markel, Goldendale, and Klaudia Calhoun (Jacob), Rosemount, MN; grandsons Nathan Markel, San Diego, and Victor Markel, Bozeman, Montana; great-granddaughter Eleanor Calhoun and soon-to-be great-grandson Baby Calhoun; sister-in-law Ruth (Marvin) Hiddleson, Urbandale, Iowa, sister-in-law, Carol Markel, Prescott Valley, Arizona; and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held between 6:00 and 8:00 pm on Thursday, 22 September, at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel, 2300 W. Old Shakopee Road, Bloomington. The funeral service will be held at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church, 3601 W Old Shakopee Road, Bloomington, at 10:00 am on Friday, 23 September. For those wishing to make a memorial donation, the family suggests Mt.
