Warren Joseph Hickey

Warren Joseph Hickey November 21, 1930 - September 15, 2025 Born and raised in Saint Paul, MN, Warren played on the river bluffs, spent time with his cousins on the farm in Brownsville and in Prior Lake, and attended St. James Catholic elementary school and Munroe H. S. He served briefly in the USAF (private first class, Lackland) and received a medical discharge. He worked many years as an x-ray and ultrasound technician at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, where he met nurse Ruth. Warren was confirmed in the Lutheran church. They were married and lived in south Minneapolis raising two kids and helping with several grandchildren, making friends of the neighbors, and being pillars at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church. They traveled to many parts of the U.S., and in 2005 they toured Ireland. In 2024 they moved to Bloomington. Warren played sandlot baseball and football. As a young man, he played softball on the Parrish's Bar and Grill team and bowled. He enjoyed watching most sports, but especially the Twins and the Gophers. "Papa's" greatest delight was spending time with his grand-children, great-grandchildren, and other little ones. Though he didn't say much, he loved being in groups of people - relatives, friends at church and work, neighbors - and often delighted them with a sly joke or gentle poke. He will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul who lived and died in the confidence of being a child of God in Jesus Christ. Warren is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth; son and daughter-in-law Paul and Tricia Hickey; son-in-law Kirk Rothenberger; grandchildren Angela Woodard (Nate Casey), Ariana Woodard (Aaron Savold), Danny (Sarah) Woodard, Beck Weinzetl, Chris (Michele) Hickey; great-grandchildren Dominic, Jackson, Andrew, Georgia, Maggie, Abigail, and Savannah; sister-in-law Lois Rau; numerous nephews, nieces, and grands. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Emma; daughter Susan; son-in-law Danny Woodard; brother and sister-in-law Wayne and Eileen Hickey; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Cleone and Nils Brustuen, Merlin and DeLores Rau, Donald Rau, Leo and Naomi Miller, Herman and Geraldine Maanum; several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3430 E 51st Street, Minneapolis, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 20, with reviewal starting at 10:00 AM and lunch after the service. Burial will be at Fort Snelling Cemetery at 12:15 PM on Monday, September 29, meet at assembly area #6.
