Virginia Waldin

Waldin (Schlampp), Virginia of East Gull Lake, MN formerly of Edina, and Pompano Beach, Florida, born on Nov- ember 18, 1920 to Edward and Doris Schlampp Sr. in Minneapolis, MN, died on January 24th after a brave 10 year battle with lung cancer. She was a trooper till the end and will be remembered as a woman of strong spirit, possessing a great sense of humor and generosity. Fun-loving and funny, she lived as she died...on her own terms and surrounded by her family. She was 85. Ginny grew up in Kenwood and graduated from West High in 1938. During WW II she volunteered at the U of M Hospitals, Station 21 and continued her volunteer work on school boards where she started the after-school Spanish programs and at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital for 20 years. She loved horseback riding and tennis, played competitive bridge and cribbage with the best of them; but golf was her passion, which began at Lafayette Country Club under the tutelage of Bill Barrett and where she golfed with the great Patty Berg and taught children how to play. She was a member of the women's 18-hole league at Edina CC and was proud of her many trophies won at the Madden's Golf Tournaments. She is survived by her three children; Susan Kristofferson (Ron), Nisswa, MN, Deb Waldin, Edina and Rocky Waldin (Judy), Chanhassen; five grandchildren, Wendy Martinez (Marco), Kara Carper (Terry), Lisa Fett (Shane) and Alexis and Taylor Waldin; great- grandchildren Sophia, Kristoffer, Anna and one on the way. She is also survived by her dear brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Lois Schlampp Jr. and nieces and nephew; Linda, Andrea, Ami, Dori & Peter. Also, her fluffy companion, Daisy Mae. Special thanks to Dr. Steve Hanske, all the incredible nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital, her friends at Gull Lake and the wonderful caregivers who helped her out these past few years. A memorial service followed by a lunch reception will be held at Interlachen Country Club on Friday, January 27, at 11 AM.
