Virginia Pauline Komarek

Komarek, Virginia Pauline (Nordstrom), age 100 of Golden Valley passed peacefully on Sunday, September 29 and entered into the presence of her Savior Jesus Christ on the exact date of her late husband Joseph Conrad Komarek passing 28 years prior. She was an only child, born on February 2, 1924 in Superior, Wisconsin to Hannah Pauline Lampi (homemaker) and John Edwin Nordstrom (Hotel & Restaurant Worker). She was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America in Superior. She was an active school girl in social clubs and graduated from Superior Central HS in 1942. Upon graduation she worked as a switchboard operator while taking some business administration classes. She was hired as an administrative assistant to AJ Zorb at his Duluth law firm. After a visit to her friend's Macalester College campus, she decided to move to the "big city". While in St. Paul, she lived in a boarding house and worked a decade for two thriving manufacturing companies (Speed-O-Laq and Wood Conversion). In the summer of 1952, while on a date with someone else, she met a smooth talking, WWII Vet and business owner, Joe Komarek at a dance on Lake Minnetonka. They locked in, courted for a year, and were married August 16, 1953. By 1955 with one child and one on the way, the couple moved to the growing suburb of Golden Valley where she raised six children on the Hampshire Lane estate, just north of the Golden Valley Country Club. Virginia went to full time homemaker mode where she was active in kids school activities and raising kids through confirmation at St. Mary's of the Lake Church in Plymouth. After the last of six kids were getting through high school, she went back to work for Litton Microwave and Pilsbury; a season she cherished having wonderful bosses. Upon her retirement from Pillsbury, she entered back into the caretaking role of her grandchildren and along with the Kom Kids caring for her husband when he was diagnosed with cancer. In June of 1996 she attended the Billy Graham event at the Minneapolis Metrodome and was touched deeply to grow in her faith in Jesus and find strength to serve through this difficult season and certain loss of her husband. She then became active at both Crystal Free Church and Calvary Lutheran Church where she found additional support and new friendships. She was an active Grandma willing to pitch in while enjoying her yard work, cooking, BBQ's, dining out and getting in numerous Hallmark Channel movies. In 1999 at age 75, she went back to work 15 hours a week to her dream job at Bachman's Floral in Plymouth. She retired there at the age of 90. Only the last few years were tough on Virginia and she was thankful for such a wonderful long life and despite a few guys trying to get a date over the years, she stayed single. Virginia is survived by her four sons John C Komarek of Plymouth, William J Komarek of Golden Valley, Richard P Komarek of Port Aransas TX and Joseph E (Jennifer) Komarek of St. Johns FL, two daughters, Elizabeth A Komarek of Golden Valley and Viginia M Komarek of Maple Grove, Grandchildren Melissa M Johnson, Brook Komarek-LaMosse, Andrew Boeving and Thomas Boeving as well as five great grandchildren; Kody, Easton, Olivia, Harper and Zaiyah. Funeral services will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley on Tuesday, October 8th at 11:00 AM with visitation starting at 10:00 AM. A private burial service will take place at Fort Snelling on October 9th where she will be at rest next to her husband of 44 years. In lieu of flowers, The Kom Kids have established a memorial fund at www.e210ventures.org/vpk-memorial-fund/ to pay forward some special organizations close to her heart.
