Veronica Min Wotipka

Mrs. Veronica Min Wotipka (neé Min Sung Hee), 81, died peacefully in her sleep on October 29, 2023, with her husband of over 56 years by her side. She had been diagnosed with cancer (likely ovarian) earlier this year. After surviving the Korean War with her family, Mrs. Min Wotipka continued her education in her hometown of Seoul, including taking language courses at Ewha Womans University. An Americanophile skilled in English, her job as an interpreter led her to meet her husband, James Louis Wotipka. They settled in Rochester, Minnesota, where James worked for IBM. Mrs. Min Wotipka was most proud of their children, Christine Min Wotipka (married to Anthony Lising Antonio), Michael James Wotipka [married to Sarah Jean (Graff) Wotipka], and grandchildren Joaquin, Eva, and Frances. Mrs. Min Wotipka will be fondly remembered as a lover of life. Known for her impeccable fashion sense and always looking her best, she was happiest when wearing traditional Korean dresses as she danced and shared her Korean culture in Rochester schools and festivals. A favorite aspect of interpreting at the Mayo Clinic was meeting people from all over the world, which she also did through her travels to numerous countries. Always stopping to smile and talk with babies, young children, and cute dogs, Mrs. Min Wotipka likewise deeply admired older people, veterans, and (certain) politicians. She loved Latin music, particularly the local group Ecuador Manta and her favorite singer, Marco Antonio Solis, whose music helped her endure the boredom of the COVID-19 lockdown. Although she always missed her home country, Mrs. Min Wotipka adored everything about Minnesota, especially its many lakes and the Vikings. In her final days, she referred to her husband, James, as her hero as he lovingly cared for her in their home. A social hour and funeral mass will be held at the Church of St. Patrick in Edina on Wednesday, November 8, at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., respectively. Burial at Fort Snelling will follow immediately afterward (by invitation only). In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates messages from cherished family and friends.
