Verna Judith Sotebeer

Sotebeer, Judy (Terning) Verna Judith Sotebeer of Edina, MN passed peacefully into the arms of Christ after a short illness on Monday, March 20 at the age of 100 years, 8 months. Our mother and grandmother was born in Cokato, MN on the family farm on July 20, 1922 and graduated from Dassel High School in 1939. Judy enrolled in the Minnesota School of Business, where she met her beloved husband Russel Sotebeer of 67 years. Their devotion to one another was unending. Judy felt richly blessed with 4 children, Gary (Jan), Nancy (Jay) Diley, Richard, Robert, 4 grandchildren, Gummy (Peter) Grande, Jim (Elizabeth) Diley, Christina (Jeremiah) Pilon, Tyler (Sarah) Sotebeer and 9 special great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Wanda Terning, nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Judy and Russ were founding members of Shepherd of The Hills Lutheran Church Edina, MN and lifelong members for 68 years serving in many caring capacities. Judy's hands were always busy and her cooking was legendary. She loved to garden, read, knit, travel the world, especially to Sweden, and treasure sunsets at the family cabin in Wisconsin. Mom was always a country girl at heart but the big city was her destiny. Her life centered around service to others, including leadership roles with The American Swedish Institute Associates, PEO Chapter S, Shepherd of The Hills Board of Trustees and Y'sMenettes. She was a dedicated homemaker to her family, an exceptional cook, and a generous and gracious hostess to many in her MN and AZ homes. At 100 years old, Judy saw and experienced a great deal and loved a lot. We give thanks to her Lord for a most remarkable life. A Celebration Of Life service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, March 31 at Shepherd of The Hills Lutheran Church, 500 Blake Road S. Edina, MN 55343, with visitation one hour prior. Private family internment at Lakewood Cemetery. People can access the service by going to www.sothchurch.com.
