Verla Maureen Kihle

ObitVerla Maureen Kihle, age 84, of Crystal, MN passed away on October 16, 2024 with her family by her side. Verla was born to Oliver and Dorothy Olson on April 21, 1940 at Hettinger, ND. She is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, Galen Kihle, and brother Kurt Olson. After growing up on the farm in Regent, ND, Verla ventured to Minot, ND after high school. She loved to tell the story of travelling there on the bus in her high-heeled shoes and suitcase in tow, as she looked for a place to live and work. It wasn't long before she met Galen and they became inseparable. Galen and Verla were married on Jan 21, 1960. They initially lived in Minot while Galen completed his degree and began his teaching career. They moved to Crystal, MN in 1969 where they raised their 2 boys, Keith and Bryan. Throughout her life, Verla was strong in her devotion and commitment to the Lord. She remained faithful in her service until her death. Galen and Verla valued the privilege of having a fellowship gathering in their home for over 50 years and cared deeply for those that shared fellowship in their open home. Verla's great love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was obvious to all that knew her. Her family was always her priority, and she was loved and adored by all of them. Galen and Verla's greatest enjoyments were the frequent sleepovers, outings and activities with their grandchildren, including the playhouse built in the backyard just for them. In recent years, she cherished every moment spending time with her 3 great-grandchildren. In addition to her immediate family, there were so many others that called her Grandma Verla. And she showed the same warmth and love to all of her "bonus grandchildren". Verla never met a stranger, and had a gift of making everyone feel special, no matter how long they were acquainted. Even those she met in her everyday life, at a store or restaurant, quickly became a true friend. Verla always saw the best in everyone. Verla was also known for her musical talents and spent many years teaching piano lessons. Verla and Galen also loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to Hawaii while they were able. In Hawaii they loved listening to the Hawaiin music and especially enjoyed spending time with the many friends they met there over the years. Verla is survived by "her boys", Keith (Janna) Kihle and Bryan (Darci) Kihle; Grandchildren, Allyson Kihle, Kayla (Charlie) Frank, Kelsey (Cody) Olmscheid, Ethan Kihle and Luke Kihle; great-grandchildren, Brooklynn and Remington Frank and Stella Rae Olmscheid.
