Vera Pauline Johnson

nee Schwartz Vera was born March 14, 1925 in Bridgewater, SD to Ted & Maggie Schwartz. When Vera was 9, the family moved to Mason City, IA, where Vera graduated from Plymouth High School in 1943. She worked for Western Union for three years, two of them during World War II. She then attended college, graduating June 2, 1950 from Multnomah School of the Bible, with initial hopes of being a missionary. She began working in the bookkeeping/accounting field and enjoyed traveling. She moved to Owatonna where she met Vernon Johnson. They married on November 26, 1955 at the First Baptist Church of Mason City, IA. They moved to Minneapolis the following year, where they raised their two sons, Ted & Bob. She was the den mother for their scout troop. They took family vacations to see various parts of the country and visit relatives; and she and Vernon were quite the globetrotters after the boys were grown, enjoying many trips exploring the US and the world. She was Chairwoman of the Board of Christian Education at Oak Hill Baptist Church for 11 years, serving also as a Sunday school teacher and VBS leader. When the family began attending Olivet Baptist Church (now known as Cornerstone Church), Vera was an active member of her Sunday school class, planning social events and fun outings for the group. After Vernon's passing, she began attending Calvary Church in Roseville with her son Bob's family. She went to her eternal home on December 10, 2015, peacefully passing at her son Bob's home. She is survived by sons Ted (Linda) and Bob (Shannon) and four grandchildren Ryan, Matthew, Elizabeth, and Rebecca; four sisters Loretta Koenigsberg, Mavis Deardeuff, Lelia Hansen Bates, and Judy Borchardt; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Vernon, her parents Ted & Maggie, and siblings Evelyn Bartusek, Russell Schwartz, Eileen Rogness, and June Bradley. Visitation 4-7 PM Monday, Dec. 21 at HOLCOMB-HENRY-BOOM-PURCELL FUNERAL HOME 515 Hwy 96 W., at Mackubin, Shoreview (651.482.7606). Memorial Service 11 AM Tuesday, Dec. 22 (visitation begins at 10 AM) at CALVARY CHURCH, 2120 Lexington Ave N, Roseville. Interment Fort Snelling. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
