Todd Taggart Quist

Todd Taggart Quist was born December 19, 1962. He came home just in time to be a part of Christmas celebrations. Todd grew up in North Minneapolis. He had a mind like a trap and could recite statistics for all the NFL teams before he entered grade school. Todd was athletic, intelligent, musical, and creative. His amazing mind was the source of many gifts, and the source of an illness, schizophrenia, which caused him much pain and distress. Todd engaged in this world the best he could. As he adjusted to his illness with the help of his parents, family, and many amazing health professionals, he grew into a man who lived his life with humility, gratitude, and kindness. Todd's favorite pastimes were reading and writing. He read dictionaries and had a vocabulary of tens of thousands of words. His favorite books were The Audacity of Hope and The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. He read both multiple times. During his best years Todd enjoyed camping, canoeing, and trips to Wyoming, Chicago, and New York City. Many thanks to Buffy - his longtime home healthcare nurse, Dr. Turnquist, Dr. Wamou, Randy, Kim Loeffelmacher, the amazing staff at Maranatha - too many to name, for helping him in his challenging walk through life. Todd died on Father's Day, June 21, 2026. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, parents Ray and Pat Quist, sister Ivy Quist, cousins Erik Hanson and Kari Hanson. He is survived by brothers Rex Quist (Barb), Scott Quist (Alida), sister Susan Quist (Dale Hulme), nieces Rebecca Branch (David), Jo Jones (Derron), Jackie Couillard, Rumyana Hulmequist (Isabel), nephews Peter, Mitch and Marty Quist, Nathan (Ashley), David (Melissa), and Tim Quist (Abbey), Rumen Hulmequist (Kelsey), Curt Anderson, cousins Randi Rogers, Beri Whitehorne, Gunnar Hanson (Jean), and many great and great-great, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on July 8, at 11:00 am, with visitation one hour prior at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, 2901 Emerson Ave N. Minneapolis 55411. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to NAMI Minnesota, St. Olaf Lutheran Church North Minneapolis, Maranatha Assisted Living - staff support fund.
