Thomas Neil Tweeten

Thomas N. Tweeten, 76, passed away on May 31, 2023, due to heart failure. Born to Harlan and Louise Tweeten, Tom grew up on the family farm in Spring Grove, MN, where he actively participated in church, sports, and 4-H. Grounded in faith, community, and a love for learning, he obtained his chemistry teaching degree from Winona State and pursued a Master's degree in chemistry at North Dakota State University, where he met Kay, his much-loved wife of 48 years. Following the completion of his PhD in grain science at Kansas State University, Tom dedicated himself to various roles within the analytical instrumentation, food, and environmental industries. In 1996, he combined his lifelong passion for horses with chemistry, establishing ATH Science, a company specializing in the design and production of horse grooming products. Tom enjoyed volunteering for the MN Horse Council and the Tristate Horseman's Association, while also expressing his faith through a meaningful mission trip to Tanzania, focused on supporting agricultural training. Tom's vibrant presence will forever resonate through the joyful laughter that filled any room he entered, his warm smile accentuated by his signature mustache, and his love of family get-togethers, playing a good game of cards, annual ski trips, woodworking, and photography. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether it involved bicycling, horseback riding, or creating cherished memories alongside loved ones. Tom valued camping adventures with his grandchildren and eagerly embarked on travels to explore diverse cultures and cuisines. His love for life, deep pride in his Norwegian heritage and his unwavering love for his family and friends, will forever be etched in our hearts. Tom's presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by Kay, his wife; Kristyan (Travis) Mjolsnes of Eden Prairie, MN, his daughter; Trevor (Marine Pariente) of Los Angeles, CA, his son; Lonny (Jean Ann) Tweeten of Spring Grove, MN, his brother; Elyanna, Logan, and Wyatt Mjolsnes, and Solal Tweeten, his grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be on Tuesday June 6, 2023 from 5-7 pm at the Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel. 7625 Mitchell Road in Eden Prairie, MN 55344. A funeral service to honor Tom's memory will take place on June 7, 2023, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church (12pm-1pm), 13600 Technology Drive Eden Prairie, MN. A luncheon will be held at Crave (8251 Flying Cloud Drive, Eden Prairie, MN) after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the MN High School Equestrian Association or Iringa Hope. These contributions will serve as meaningful tributes to Tom's enduring legacy.
