Thomas Wung Meh

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, brother, and friend, Pa Tom, who passed away on February 25th, 2025. Born on May 3rd, 1959, in Esu, Cameroon, Pa Tom lived a life defined by perseverance, dedication, and a deep love for his family and community. Pa Tom attended Catholic Primary School Esu (now Government Primary School Esu) and graduated with his First School Leaving Certificate in 1976. In the early 1980s, he moved to Yaoundé, where he served as an Administrative Assistant the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Even while working, he remained committed to his education, attending Messa Evening School (proprietor: Dr. Aberty), where he completed a three-year crash course and obtained his Ordinary Level (O/L) GCE in six subjects by 1989. In 1991, he continued his academic journey at the Bilingual Institute for Extra-Mural Studies in Mvog Ada (proprietor: Mr. Meh Zang Augustine), where he earned three Advanced Level (A/L) GCE papers. In the mid-1990s, Pa Tom transitioned into entrepreneurship, founding Jega Express Services, a documentation center in Biyem Assi, Yaoundé. His business was well-regarded in the community, known for its professionalism and dedication to service. In 1999, Pa Tom moved to the United States to begin a new chapter in his life. He started several businesses, including Savannah Tires and Blessings Food, through which he connected with his community and shared his love of food by grilling at local events. He also worked as a Human Services Technician for the State of Minnesota from 2016 until his passing, alongside earning a Bachelor's degree in Human Services Administration from Metropolitan State University, further solidifying his commitment to helping others. A passionate community leader, Pa Tom was deeply involved in the Cameroonian diaspora in Minnesota. He served two consecutive terms as the Secretary of the MINCAM Board (Minnesota Cameroonian Association), playing a pivotal role in the successful negotiations for the establishment of the Cameroon Community Center. He was also a strong supporter of Oro Lounge, frequently helping on behalf of his dear friend Edoh Akakpo. Pa Tom was a man of profound faith and was instrumental in the founding of the local Cameroonian Presbyterian Church (P.C.C.) in Minnesota, where he made lasting contributions to the growth of the church and its congregation. Pa Tom is survived by his wife, Helen Tankoh; his daughter, Sheila Gravelle, his previous spouse who is the mother of his daughter, Beatrice Massango, son-in-law Alex Gravelle, and grandson Theodore Gravelle. He also leaves behind his siblings: Susana Sih Meh, Elizabeth Ndum Meh, Prodencial Chuo Meh, Comfort Eka Meh, Joseph Fuh Meh, Robert Chu Kah, and Kum Fidelis Kah. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother Moses Luam Meh, sisters Lucy Wai Meh and Menna Kah Meh, as well as his father Meh Sih and mother Beatrice Mang Nseng. Pa Tom was a man of great strength, unwavering faith, and boundless generosity. He will be missed deeply by all who knew him, but his legacy of service, community, and love will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
