Teresa M. Peterson Obituary It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Teresa M. Peterson (née Mahoney) age 61, who departed this life peacefully on June 9, 2024, after a 22-year battle with brain cancer. Throughout her journey, Teresa's good humor, unwavering faith in God, and her enduring strength inspired all who knew her. Born on February 5, 1963, Teresa was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, and friend. Her life was a testament to her resilience, compassion, and faith. She approached each day with a spirit of hope and an unshakeable trust in Jesus Christ as her savior, touching countless lives with her kindness and grace. Teresa graduated from Wayzata High School in 1981. She received her BA from the University of Minnesota in 1985 and her JD from William Mitchell College of Law in 1990. She worked as a health care attorney with Allianz, UnitedHealth, and with the Stinson Leonard law firm. In 1990, Teresa married Mark B. Peterson, who was the love of her life. Together, they raised three wonderful sons - Stephen, Jack, and David. She was a devoted wife and mother who - despite her ongoing health challenges -- created a loving and nurturing home filled with warmth, laughter, and faith. She was a fierce friend who was direct and honest. She had strong convictions and the courage to stand by them. She was, as one friend described her, "a Force." Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories of her wit, loving spirit, generous heart, and her unwavering faith. Teresa's battle with brain cancer - and later breast cancer -- was long and arduous. In more than two decades following her initial diagnosis in 2002, she underwent four cranial surgeries, three separate years of chemotherapy, as well as radiation. Though beaten down by each of these events, she kept getting up and faced each challenge with courage, humor, and an unshakeable confidence in God's grace. Her journey was a powerful testament to her faith, inspiring all who were fortunate to walk beside her. Even in the face of adversity, Teresa remained a beacon of hope, often providing comfort and support to others who were facing their own struggles. Teresa is survived by her loving husband Mark, and their three sons; her parents James and Mary Ann Mahoney; her siblings, Paul (Kerry), Timothy (Gina), Jim (Lori), Patrick (Angela), and Colleen Mahoney; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. A visitation will be held at Washburn-McReavy, 5000 West 50th & Highway 100, Edina, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 4:00 - 7:00 PM. A memorial service celebrating Teresa's life will be held on June 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Christ Presbyterian Church, 70th St. and Hwy 100, Edina (www.cpcedina.org). For those that cannot attend, the memorial service will be livestreamed at www.cpcedina.org/memorials. The family requests that any memorials be provided in Teresa's name to the N.C. Little Hospice (www.littlehospice.org) or the Humor to Fight the Tumor Foundation (https://www.humortofightthetumor.org/). Teresa's legacy of love, faith, and resilience will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. As we mourn her loss, we find comfort in knowing that she is now in the arms of her Savior, free from pain and suffering. Rest in peace, Teresa. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
