Tanya Ann Mott

Tanya was born a very loved middle sister, and daughter on July 30th, 1990, in Minneapolis, MN. Tanya died February 12th, 2023, in a tragic car accident on the way to Berean Church. She was a passenger in the car with her mom, Carol, and her stepdad, Chuck. This particular Sunday started out as a sunny, lovely morning. Then at 8:13 a.m. our beloved Tanya, in the backseat buckled up, died on impact. Her bright light was instantly snuffed out. Someone from Berean mentioned that Tanya was her own ministry. Berean was the place all three deeply loved: attending the services and functions together, Tanya and Carol really cherished" Women's Night Out" together. Tanya grew up and attended elementary and middle school in Bloomington. Then in her middle school years, she lived in Lakeville and went to school in Rosemount; graduating from Rosemount High School and then Transition Plus. Tanya had autism and approached its challenges with gusto while bringing joy to all around her. Those who knew her saw and felt her sweet exuberance. Her daily calls to her mom and Chuck, her dad, and 2 sisters started by, "I had a good day today." And then she continued to ask about what we did that day. She was joyful, positive, and interested in being on the move and meeting new people. Tanya learned early in life that once you introduced yourself, you were no longer strangers. That led her to introduce her family to friends and work associates to make sure that no one was a "stranger." Some of Tanya's favorite things were being with her sisters, nephews, living with her foster family, rides at Minnesota State Fair, Park MOA (she was the longest annual pass holder ever, for thirty years), overnights at her mom's, swimming or boating on the St. Croix River, going for walks with her dad, day programs with Companion Linc, Project Explore events, and dances, door greeter on Sundays at Berean Church, dancing, dogs, birds and especially riding horses or watching any tv shows with horses. She has worked at MRCI, and most recently attended Companion Linc, a community-based day program that she adored as well as being a greeter at TJ MAXX in Burnsville. Since she was a greeter at Berean and at TJ MAXX, it was a running joke that Tanya needed to remember who she was greeting, though, it might not make a difference because many ladies frequented both. Tanya is survived by her mother, Carol Tentinger, stepdad Charles Tentinger, father David Mott and partner Jackie Melgard, sisters Teegan McFall (John-Ben) and Geena Dunklau (Jorge), step siblings Gabriel Rohan (Elena), Abigail Ramirez Tentinger, Madeline Ramirez Tentinger, beloved nephews River, Cedar, and Indigo McFall. Tanya lived the last 5 years in Lakeville with her wonderful adult foster family Tommy and Meghan McCaffrey, and their children Macie and Brody; whom we loved and were blessed with. Also, special friend Mary Hautman who, early on was Tanya's PCA and para-professional at Rosemount High School. Mary would often take Tanya to dances, holiday overnights, and her summer lake cabin. It was that very weekend before Tanya died that she went to a Valentine's Day dance with Mary and bought Valentines to give to her nephews and family. Died February 12, 2023. Anyone that knew, or had met Tanya knew the bright light that she was. Living on the autism spectrum, she accepted who she was and brought joy to all those around her. Her daily calls or voice messages to her mom, dad, and sisters were started by, "I had a good day today." Every day was a good day for Tanya. She was healthy (never missed a day of school or work in her life), always positive and interested in being on the move and meeting new people. She was eager to introduce her family to her friends and work associates to make sure that no one was a "stranger." Some of Tanya's favorite things were: her sisters, her beloved nephews, her foster family, anything relating to Bloomington, all things Disney, the MOA (particularly the rides where she was the longest annual pass holder ever for thirty years), writing in her journal, overnights at her mom's, going for walks with her dad (especially Lake Harriet), day programs with Companion Linc, Project Explore events and dances, the family cabin, being a door greeter on Sundays at Berean Church, music (the Spice Girls), dogs and birds. Tanya attended elementary and middle school in Bloomington and after moving to Dakota County, graduated from Rosemount High School and Transition Plus Special Education School. She had a number of jobs through MRCI, and most recently attended Companion Linc, a community based day program which she adored. Survived by her mother, Carol Tentinger, stepdad Charles Tentinger, father David Mott and partner Jackie Melgard, sisters Teegan McFall (John-Ben), Geena Dunklau (Jorge), step-siblings Gabriel Rohan (Elena), Abigail Ramirez Tentinger, Madeline Ramirez Tentinger, beloved nephews River, Cedar, and Indigo McFall. Tanya lived the last 5 1/2 years in Lakeville with her wonderful foster family Tommy and Meghan McCaffrey, and their children Macie and Brody. We are forever grateful to them.
