Sylvia (Harris) Schwartz

Schwartz, Sylvia H. (nee Harris) Age 89, of Minnetonka, MN, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2010. Born January 21, 1921, and lived in Minneapolis almost her entire life. Daughter of Menashe Harry and Dora (Friedman) Harris. Preceded in death by loving husband, Russell; brothers, Ellis (Harriet) Harris, and Lawrence (Regina) Harris, and sister, Sylvia Roma Harris. Survived by brother, Jerome (Faye) Harris and sister, Vita (Lawrence) Hirsch. Survived by six children: Robert, St. Louis Park, Joel (Efrat), Moshav Sde Nitzan, Israel, Jim (Ester), Teaneck, NJ, Susan (Joseph) Freedman, Jerusalem, Israel, Barbara Taragan, Golden Valley, Shari (Mitch) Grunes, Minneapolis and 21 grandchildren: Rena (Matt) McCarthy, Ian (Sarah) Schwartz; Adva (Rani) Shavit, Einat (Yam) Shelem, Raut (Michal), Ravid and Nevo Schwartz; Tali, Shira, Gil and Yaron Schwartz; Naomi (Lior) Shmuelof, Aviva (Eylon) Maser, Maya, and Shai (Dena) Freedman; Maayan Taragan (Tomer Engel), Afek and Yamit Taragan; Noam, Tova and Ayelet Grunes and 15 great-grandchildren: Maddison and Mari McCarthy; Dylan Lindgren, Grace and Ayden Veranth; Shoam and Sheked Shavit; Tahal, Tohar, and Heli Shelem; Yali and Aviv Schwartz; Gilad Shmuelof; Gal and Elah Engel. Loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who always put family first. She lived a full and joyous life, touching numerous people during her life's journey. Graduated in 1944 with a BS in nursing from the University of Minnesota. Served as a public health nurse during WWII. Sylvia began her real estate career in 1955 and established Russ Realty Company with her husband Russ, which has been in business since 1961. Sylvia was an active member of Adath Jeshurun synagogue her entire life. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, July 2, at the Adath, 10500 Hillside Lane West, Minnetonka. Interment at the Adath Yeshurun Cemetery in Edina. The family will be receiving visitors during shiva from Sunday, July 4, until early Thursday morning, July 8, at 10531 Cedar Lake Road, #514, Minnetonka. Shaharit at 8:30 am, Sunday to Thursday, and Mincha-Maariv at 7:00 pm, Sunday to Wednesday.
