Susan Elizabeth Hogan

Hogan, Susan age 76, passed away peacefully June 15, 2020 with her family by her side. Born in 1943 in Minneapolis, MN, to Ruth and Rueben Youngdahl, she was preceded in death by her parents and brother Paul. Susan is survived by her devoted husband Terry, children Trent, Kyle, and Jill (Bo) Dunlap, granddaughters Meredith and Eliza, brother Stephen (Phyllis) Youngdahl, sister-in-law Nancy Youngdahl, brother-in-law John (Elizabeth) Hogan, seven cherished nephews and one spirited niece. Susan was a graduate of Washburn High School and Gustavus Adolphus College. A wonderful friend, Susan nurtured meaningful lifelong relationships with many. A loving wife of 52 years and dedicated mother to Trent, Kyle and Jill, she will be remembered for her relentless commitment and devotion to being present and finding joy in the journey. She cherished her role as Mum (grandmother) to Meredith and Eliza, whom she adored, and made connections with people of all ages. A second mom to many, Susan celebrated accomplishments and special occasions as well as offered support for those in need. Early each morning she would quietly take time to think of people she knew needed strength and lit a candle for them. Next to laughing and selling Livia's Seasoning Salt, entertaining in her home was her favorite thing to do. After delivering a thoughtful table grace, she never hesitated to spark conversation with a question or game to get things going, often remarking "see, you just have to communicate!" Her table was always open, creating a space for conversation and new connections. Of all the holidays, Christmas was her favorite and she anticipated it all year long. Whether she was singing the Twelve Days of Christmas at annual carol sings, displaying her tree of Santa Clauses, playing medleys of carols on her childhood piano or having Christmas dinner at her home or her Godson's table, she cherished the joy and hope of each Christmas Day. Her Christian faith was at the core of who she was. Her faith was abundant, and she lived life ceaselessly positive. Great was her faithfulness and because of that, she truly believed that life was to be enjoyed and death was not to be feared. She reminded us of that often. She was fed by encouraging others and pointing out the positive side of any situation. Plans are underway to construct a new Chapel bell tower in Susan's memory at Cathedral of the Pines Camp on Caribou Lake, where Susan and generations of campers have developed their faith in God.
