Steven Charles King

Steven C. King Beloved father, husband and friend, passed peacefully while surrounded by his devoted family at the Minneapolis VA Hospital on April 4th, 2025. Steve was born on December 28th, 1945 to June (Carlson) and Dan King in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from Richfield High School, enlisted in the U. S. Navy, and was a serviceman in the Vietnam War. He married the love of his life, Jean (Schultz), on May 10th, 1975 and they began their family, settling in Coon Rapids. Steve's greatest accomplishments were his four children, whom he was extremely close to and immensely proud of. Valuing education and diligence, he spent endless hours helping them with homework, projects, and supporting them with invaluable advice. Each night, he'd put them to bed telling them fantastical stories from his imagination, followed by a quiz on the story, ending with his original "Nighty-Night" song. He was thrilled when he became a grandpa and absolutely thrived in that role. Steve's career included long tenures as Vice President of First Brookdale Bank, as well as in economic development for both the St. Paul Port Authority and Dakota County Economic Development Partnership. He was a skilled businessman, communicator, and eloquent orator. His stage presence was unmatched. In addition to holding leadership roles with Ducks Unlimited and the Coon Rapids VFW, he volunteered with the Lions Club. A true jack of all trades with broad knowledge and skills; Steve could make or fix just about anything. He was also artistic and enjoyed calligraphy, painting, engraving, and woodworking. Steve was a caring and trusted friend to many including Gary Larson, Rich Mankowski and Pete Klein, to name a few. They shared many adventures together fishing, bird hunting, and spending time at the deer shack. Not only was he an avid sportsman, Steve was a renowned prankster and jokester. He got the biggest kick out of drawing a laugh. He strived to serve others and make people happy, and his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all those who love him. Steve valiantly fought the effects from exposure to Agent Orange acquired during his time in the service. He overcame cancer and long persevered amidst the progression of inclusion body myositis while maintaining a positive outlook throughout. He is survived by wife, Jean; children, Emily (Chris Leebens), Molly (Cory) Nokleby, Dan (Christen Evans), and David (Pachee); grandchildren, Drew, Sam L., Case, Paige, Wyatt, and Sam N. Preceded in death by parents, June and Dan, as well as his loyal springer spaniel, Moose. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 16th at 11:00 AM (visitation 10:00 - 11:00) at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel, 1827 Coon Rapids Blvd. NW. A luncheon is directly to follow at the Coon Rapids VFW. In lieu of flowers, family will donate memorials to the Minneapolis VA Hospital.
