Sommer Elaine Callen (affectionally known as Annie) We are deeply devastated by the loss of our vibrant, happy, fun, and silly 18-year-old in a tragic accident. Her life was short but incredibly impactful. The entire room lit up when she walked in. Always had a smile and warm "Sommer hug" to greet you in the morning, afternoon, or evening. She was a creative, kind, and loving person. Sommer had a keen talent and curiosity for digital art, web design, and games. Her sense of humor and kindness will be remembered for a lifetime. She was a pure breath of fresh air and will be unbelievably missed by her family and friends. Sommer is survived by her heartbroken parents, Kera and David Callen along with her siblings, Ireland and Selick Callen. She is also survived by her devoted grandmother (one of her best friends), Karen Sommer, her grandfather and step-grandmother, Frank and Cindy Sommer, her aunts, Kirsten Martelli (Domenic), Lisa Werth (Tim), and Linda Zylstra, and many others including cousins, great aunts and uncles who will miss her dearly. Her last act of kindness and compassion is what she would have insisted - donating her organs for those with great need. She has already saved two lives with her precious gifts, with others likely in the coming weeks; certainly bringing those families exceedingly amounts of hope and joy. Infinitely curious, Sommer would have found it fascinating to know her organs were working inside of others' bodies and that SHE saved their lives. Our grief of losing this loving red-headed child is indescribable. We will cherish our memories and funny stories of her forever. We will try to live as she would have wanted us to - kind, caring, patient, and with an ability to stop and smell the roses. And above all, with happiness. A heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses that compassionately cared for our daughter at Hennepin County Medical Center. Celebration of Sommer will be held Saturday, March 18 from 3-4:30 pm followed by a ceremony of remembrance at 4:30pm.
