Somkhith Chanthavong, age 82, of Crystal, peacefully departed this world on August 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and cherished memories. Born on March 13, 1944, in Laos, she lived a life defined by compassion, dedication, and a profound sense of purpose. In 1980, Somkhith accepted the Lord and Savior and was baptized, grounding her life in faith that guided her through every joy and challenge. Family was the foundation of Somkhith’s life. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Phanh Chanthavong, with whom she shared 60 years of unwavering love and companionship. As a mother to Sammy, Oudomphone, Jenifer, Anne, and Cindy, she offered guidance, strength, and unconditional love. Her joy multiplied as a grandmother, delighting in the growth of her grandchildren and creating treasured moments that will forever remain in their hearts. Somkhith was known for her gentle spirit and her ability to make others feel happy. She was also free‑spirited and enjoyed entertainment in her leisure time — embracing gatherings, laughter, and moments that brought joy to those around her. Through her words of kindness, and at times disappointment when she cared deeply, she touched the lives of many with honesty, warmth, and resilience. A wake will be held on Friday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Washburn‑McReavy Crystal Lake Chapel. The funeral service will follow on Saturday at 2:00 PM, where friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance and honor a life well‑lived. Following the viewing on Friday, and again after the funeral service on Saturday, a late lunch and early dinner will be held at the family home. It would be an honor for the family to welcome all who wish to join in celebrating Somkhith’s life and sharing memories of her warmth, strength, and love. Somkhith is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Phanh. She is survived by her children — Sammy, Oudomphone, Jenifer, Anne, and Cindy; her grandchildren — Sandy, Jimmy, Rockie, Kathy, Vicki, Stephenie, Sandra, Melissa, Tommy, and Helen; along with a host of relatives and friends who will continue to carry her legacy forward. May she rest in eternal peace, her spirit living on in the hearts of all she touched.
