Shirley Jean Shaninghouse-Lewis

Shirley Jean Shaninghouse- Lewis was born on May 22nd 1956 in Keokuk Iowa, to Marjorie Shaninghouse and Henry Shaninghouse. Shirley graduated from Central High School in the year 1974. She was an artist in high school and was even asked to go to an art school for her work, but her passion for art was not to be and instead she up became an under writer for Lutheran Brotherhood where she worked for 27 years. She was united in marriage to Rickey Marcellus Lewis on Sept 17th 1999. Shirley was a prayer warrior, and a mighty woman of God, and her faith even though at times was tested she continued to believe that God would see her through. She went home to be with the Lord on Monday August 18th 2025. She was loved and will be missed greatly by her son, Ricky Shaninghouse (Stacy Shaninghouse); Eli Shaninghouse (granddaughter), Jakob Shaninghouse (grandson); and her daughter Klarissa Shaninghouse; Olivia Shaninghouse (granddaughter). Her sisters Juanita Shaninghouse Susan Shaninghouse, Lynn Burkett ( Michael Burkett),and her brother James Shaninghouse ( Jenny Shaninghouse). Her niece Kareesha Smith (Chris Smith) Danasia Johnson , Lianna Johnson, Melody Smith, Josiah Smith, and nephews, Ladonn Shaninghouse, Kiani Burkett ( Emily Burkett),Jesse Shaninghouse, her great aunt Alcena Dawson (Keouk, IA) her Uncle Ronnie ( Alexandria, MN), Cousins Christine Johnson (Minneapolis) Barbara Stewart (Wisconsin), and her close friends Joy Gotschock and Luella Williams. She is preceded in death by her husband Rickey Lewis, and her parents Henry Shaninghouse and Marjorie Shaninghouse. Her interment will be at Fort Snelling Cemetery. We thank God for the time that we were able to have with her, she was the best mom, grandmother/nana, best sister, best listener and best friend that we could ask for.
