Shirley Mae May

Beloved Shirley Mae (Weis)May was born in Saint Cloud on June 3, 1931 and peacefully passed away on April 4, 2023 at the age of 91. She grew up in the St.Cloud area, met and married LeRoy October 13,1951, later settling in north Minneapolis. Shirley was active in the workforce as a bookkeeper for the Curtis Hotel and Car X til she retired. She was known and loved everywhere for her positivity and smile. Shirley was an avid Twins and Vikings fan, keeping track of the scores back several decades. She loved to knit and crochet, attend the casinos with her husband and friends, read voraciously and was always interested in the local obituaries, weather and news. She was a faithful friend, aunt, and sister in making calls each day to those who meant the most to her. She often had words of wisdom, encouragement and good cheer for all those dear to her. Shirley was full of love and kindness and kept on top of everybody's life everything going on. Her memory was sharp as a tack, and right to the end she could carry in the best of conversations about current events, sports teams and what was happening in people's lives!!! She cooked for herself and made her favorite dishes. Every few weeks she would call JoAnn with a grocery order and have on her mind what she was hungry for. She was consistent to buy the donuts and apple fritters, Snicker midgets, sour cream and onion potato chips, Dove ice cream bars, archway molasses cookies and Dots pretzels. These were just a few of her favorite things. She would cook up an occasional steak fried in butter, chicken, and mashed potatoes, or a nice pork steak. She loved to make strawberry shortcake, banana bread, and was grateful when someone brought her some chocolate cake. Myras Daughter, Brenda was often thoughtful and would bring her wonderful things to eat. The last few weeks she suffered an infection that caused delirium in her mind and brought her to her nieces home where she quickly declined until she was hospitalized and found to have heart and kidney failure. She was faithful to Christ during her life, living honestly, going to church and praying continuously for herself and others. The last few days it was important to her to be ready to pass and she prayed continuously the rosary to be watched over by God and forgiven of her sins. She is already missed. "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their afflictions..." James 1:27 She was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy, Father-Alphonse J. Weis, Mother -Rose H. (Fasching)Weis, and Sister-Phyllis G Schultz, She is Survived by her sister Patricia ( Pat) Haley. Nephew , Tom Haley (Rusty) , Sheila ( Greg) Pietig, Diane ( Jeff) Clapp, Karen (Brad) Clausen and numerous Great and great, great nieces and nephews. She will be especially missed by her niece and nephew on her husbands side, JoAnn Holm and Freddie Schwartz who loved Shirley as a favorite auntie! Also special thanks expressed to her aide from Apex Homecare "Z" for her kindness to Shirley and willingness to help her, organize her basement and just sit with her and enjoy conversation together and some of her favorite TV. She also depended on and so much appreciated her neighbor James who took care of all her yard needs year round, and often came running when she needed some help with something unexpectedly. Shirley also had a great love for her neighbor and best friend Myra who proceeded her in death by a few days, they will not be separated!
