Sandra Colleen Nicholls

Sandra "Sandy" Nicholls, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024, at the age of 79. Born in Thief River Falls on December 18, 1944 to Lillian and Bill (Ellefson) Johnson, Sandy's life was a testament to the love she had for her family and the dedication she had to her children. After graduating from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, in 1962, Sandy pursued her passion for nursing, earning her licensed practical nursing certificate from Northland Community and Technical College. Following graduation, she started working at Warren Hospital. While working at the hospital, she met the love of her life, Ronald Nicholls. They were united in marriage at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Warren, MN on March 23, 1967. They spent the next 57 years building a wonderful life and family together. Ron and Sandy relocated to the Twin Cities, settling in Robbinsdale in 1969. There, Sandy left her nursing career and devoted herself to lovingly raising their four children, Michele, Susan, Ryan, and Rob. Sandy worked tirelessly to always make home cooked meals, learned to drive to get the kids to preschool, planned amazing, memory filled vacations, and was a DIY extraordinaire. Her children credit their successes in life and their ability to tackle any job, task, or situation to their hard-working mom. Sandy's legacy of love extends beyond her immediate family. She cherished her role as a grandmother to eight grandsons, Jacob, Joshua, Jonah, John, Jesse, Grant, Anders, and Charlie and one granddaughter, Anika. She also leaves behind a sister, Shirley Lorentson, sons-in-law Tony and Rich, daughters-in-law Kye and Stacy, as well as nieces, nephews, and countless friends who will miss her dearly. Though Sandy may be gone, she will live on with all those who were fortunate enough to know her. A visitation will be held on April 18 from 4-7 PM at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel, with a funeral service on April 19 at 11:00 AM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, preceded by visitation one hour prior and a luncheon will be served after. Sandy will be laid to rest at Our Saviour's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of Sandy's memory.
