Samuel Richard Schmaltz

Samuel Richard "Sammy" Schmaltz, age 17, of Minnetrista, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly at his home on the morning of May 2, 2026, just one day before his 18th birthday. Sammy was born in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, at Methodist Hospital to his loving parents, Jerry and Elida Schmaltz. He grew up in Minnetrista and was deeply connected to the Minnetonka community, where he built strong friendships and lasting memories. Sammy was a senior at Minnetonka High School and was set to graduate with honors this June. A driven and curious student, he took numerous Advanced Placement courses and had already earned about a year and a half of college credit. Through the VANTAGE program, he explored business and entrepreneurship, reflecting his ambition and determination. He had a true passion for learning and loved sharing interesting things he discovered with others. He had been accepted to North Dakota State University with a partial scholarship and was also considering pursuing a law degree at the University of Minnesota. Sammy dreamed of becoming a lawyer and continuing his education. Sammy brought heart and dedication to everything he did. He was a proud member of the wrestling and football teams and also participated in track and trap shooting. He gave back by helping coach wrestling at Minnetonka. Outside of school, he worked at Chipotle, where he stood out for his work ethic and was already being considered for a management role. He also volunteered with Feeding My Starving Children and at St. Joseph's Church, where he was confirmed. More than anything, Sammy loved being with his friends and family. He had a kind, generous spirit and was often the first to help others. He had a natural way of connecting with people, making everyone feel welcome, and his constant smile left a lasting impression. Sammy was very close to his grandparents, Sam and Sokhary You and Richard and Arlene Schmaltz. He was especially close to Sam and Sokhary, who helped raise him and played a big role in shaping the young man he was becoming. Sammy was a remarkable young man with a bright future ahead. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him. Sammy is survived by his loving parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and extended family. There are so many who loved him that it is impossible to name them all. Service Information All are welcome to attend any or all services as we come together to remember Sammy.
