Samuel Jenkins Sr

Jenkins, Samuel Sr. 84, of Ball Club and Minneapolis, MN, passed away on June 9, 2017 in Fridley, MN. After a long, happy and productive life and a long battle with heart disease and diabetes, his huge heart finally stopped working and he has gone to be with the Lord. Sam is survived by nine children: Samuel Jenkins, Jr; Bruce White; Sharon McBride; Ted Lee; Tracy Hines; Troy Hines; Brenda Jenkins; Sharon Pietz and Lyman Jenkins. Samuel is also survived by seemingly countless grandchildren, several great-grand-children and even some great-great grandchildren! He is preceded in death by sons Curtis Pietz and Stacy Jenkins. He is also survived by brothers George, Nathan and Tony, and is preceded in death by stepfather George Jenkins and father Edward Morgan, mother Elizabeth Jenkins, brothers Maynard, Charlie, Louis, Eugene, Robert, and Melvin, and sisters Genevieve, Victoria and Rose. Samuel had many friends and people who loved him; people who, at one point in their lives, he gave refuge; a place to call home, even if temporarily. He spent his life thinking of others. He had a work ethic to be admired, and spent much of his working life as a truck driver, but he didn't spend all of his time on the road away from his family indeed, Samuel often times took his children and grandchildren on the road with him in an effort to show them the world and to spend valuable time with them. Samuel laughed and joked a lot his family knows that if he isn't teasing you, it means he doesn't like you. He brought loads of joy to everyone he encountered. He spent the last several years of his life suffering through various health problems, primarily in the home and care of his "Granny-girl" Vanessa Wright and her husband, Eric, and their children, Herbert IV, Aldwen and Lillian. Vanessa held a special relationship with her grandpa, and was more like a daughter to him than a granddaughter. Samuel will be missed dearly and will live on in our hearts forever. His body is gone, but his spirit is above us all, with our Lord, and the loved ones who preceded him in death, and he is proud of his family and how they will honor him by living out the lives he would wish for them. A special thanks to the Estates of Fridley for their services in caring for Samuel, and for bringing him comfort and laughter in his final months. Samuel's memorial service will be held on June 23 from 2pm - 4pm, with visitation starting at noon, at the Washburn McReavy Funeral Home in Coon Rapids, MN address 1827 Coon Rapids Boulevard NW, Coon Rapids, MN 55433; phone # (763) 767-1000. Service to be followed by a celebration of his life at the home of granddaughter Vanessa Wright, address 3598 114th Lane NW, Coon Rapids, MN 55433.
