Ruth Doris Lyons

Ruth Weidenbacher Lyons, 89, passed away peacefully at Friendship Village of Bloomington on August 16, 2024. Ruth enjoyed a long and full life. Preceded in death by her partner Jaye Truax; and her beloved second husband Earle T Lyons. Survived by her two sons and a daughter with her first husband William Weidenbacher: Steve (Elizabeth Schmidt), Glenn (Teresa), and Ann; and many other relatives and friends. Ruth was born on January 31, 1935, in Chicago, IL to Dorothy Silberhorn and Herman Freuck. She graduated from High School in Whitefish Bay, north of Milwaukee, WI and attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Ruth and her first husband Bill married March 17, 1957. They had three children and moved frequently over several years before settling in Bloomington, MN. Ruth was a full-time mother who was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed designing and making her own clothes including work attire and clothes for her children. She was Minnesota State Registration Chairwoman for sanctioned Amateur Athletic Association (AAU) events and President of her daughter's AAU Bloomington Swim club. She had a passion for sailing and flying and earned her Private Pilot's License at Flying Cloud Airport. Ruth returned to work teaching sewing and found her passion as a Telecommunications Manager with Land O'Lakes for over 20 years. After retirement Ruth was an active member of her church, a Grief Counselor and taught skiing to youth and adults until the age of 80! She was an active member and later President of the HOA board at Friendship Village. Ruth enjoyed playing bridge, swimming, skiing, gardening, traveling, photography and so much more. In her later years, Ruth found new love with a man she met at church, Jaye Truax. This love reinvigorated their lives and included traveling together to Mexico, Colorado, and New York City. While Ruth enjoyed the beauty and flow of skiing, viewing art, opera, and ballet, Jaye enjoyed being with her, dining and taking in the sights. Many days were spent playing bridge or quietly enjoying each other's company, as well as sharing a love of watching Minnesota Twins baseball games on television.
