Ruth "Bunny" Lyngaas

Ruth Adelle Lyngaas (age 88) of Waconia, formerly of Excelsior, passed away on Good Friday, April 18, 2025. Ruth (Bunny) was born at home on September 24, 1936, in Berthold, North Dakota. She was the fifth child of nine born to Isaac Melvin and Jonette Elise (Raftshol) Rotto. Bunny graduated in 1954 from Portland High School in North Dakota, and Luther College in Decorah, Iowa in 1958 with a B.A. in English. She met Jewell Lyngaas at Luther College. Bunny was a cheerleader and her sweetheart, Jewell, was a football player. They were married on June 20, 1959. After college, Bunny taught English in Cambridge, Mora and Columbia Heights, Minnesota. Bunny, a dedicated wife and mother, was married to her beloved husband, Jewell, for 44 years. Bunny loved cruising Lake Zumbra on the pontoon at sunset, wearing her sailor hat with Jewell while he fished. She cherished family summer vacations and reunions at Jewett Lake in Fergus Falls. Bunny celebrated all birthdays, holidays and any gathering of family and friends. She was a dedicated volunteer at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Excelsior. Bunny and Jewell enjoyed traveling to Norway, Russia, Australia, Israel, Turkey, several European countries and many other places throughout the United States. Bunny was knowledgeable about animals and nature. She was known as the neighborhood dog mom! Oh, how she adored her dogs. She also loved birds, especially cardinals. Bunny was an avid reader and loved drinking coffee and reading her newspaper cover to cover every day. She always cheered on the Minnesota Vikings and Twins and kept up with all sports! Bunny enjoyed listening to bluegrass, classical and country music. She attended many music and theater performances as well as endless sporting events for her children and grandchildren. Caring for her children and grandchildren was her greatest passion. She had a magical way of soothing babies - the baby whisperer. Bunny loved her seven grandchildren so much! We are grateful she got to enjoy her one great-grandchild during the final months of her life. Survived by loving children, Becky Janes (Kelley), Kristofer (Kristin) and Katy Skrypek (Dan): cherished grandchildren, Matthew Janes (Nicole), Allison Tibbles (Andrew) and great-grandson David Andrew, Sarah Janes, Owen and Julian Lyngaas, Korinne and Aaron Skrypek. She is also survived by brothers, Curtis (Ann) and Luther (Judy) Rotto; sisters Alma Rotto-Morgan, Jonette Martinson; and sister-in-laws, Kathryn Rotto and Susan Lyngaas. In addition, she is survived by numerous nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by husband Jewell; siblings John (Lina) Rotto, Irvin (Ardith) Rotto, Theodore Rotto, Christine (Richard) Hefte; and brother-in-law, Robert Lyngaas. A Celebration of Life service will be held for Bunny at Faith Lutheran Church, 800 Waconia Pkwy N., Waconia MN. on Friday, June 20, 2025. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. Service at 11:00 a.m. A reception will be held following the service. Memorials preferred to Haven Homes in Maple Plain, the Arboretum or favorite charity.
