Roy O'Connor Jones

Jones, Roy O'Connor passed away on June 3, 2023, in Minneapolis, MN surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with kidney disease and cancer. He was 86 years old. Born February 12, 1937, in a beautiful farmland countryside in the district of Palm Linstead, St. Catherine, Jamaica. He came from a vibrant family; Mother, Father and thirteen siblings. He attended Bermaddy Primary School and was head of the school cricket team. He was taught masonry by the best group after he left school and became a competent mason contractor. He also worked on the farm and taught his younger siblings how to manage the farm (with instructions from his Father). He embraced his many responsibilities. His father Frank Jones was a veteran fighting in WWI in 1914, and his mother Myrtle was a seamstress. Roy migrated to Birmingham, England for a better life in 1961. There he met and married the love of his life Winnifred. He enjoyed his work as a welder and worked many years at the Cadbury Chocolate Factory. In June 1978, Roy and his family decided to move to America and made the move to Minneapolis, Minnesota and resided in South Minneapolis for 45 years. Roy was a long-time employee of Augustana Nursing Home. He was a die-hard Vikings fan and loved watching Family Feud and Judge Judy. He also enjoyed playing dominoes and giving many 6 Love. He was a devoted and supportive husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. One of the things that kept Roy strong, and always with a positive demeanor, was his faith in God. He knew his life was always in God's hands. He was baptized for the first time on August 21, 2022, as a confirmation of giving his life to God, and became a member of Restoring Lives Community Church on that same day. Roy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Winnifred; daughters Arlene, Aldrea, Lorraine (Neil), Trudi, Charmaine; son Leon. Grandchildren Marshon, Steve, Candice (Ramaya), Dechandra, Angel, Stephan, and Collin. Siblings; Ruby, Gloria, Shirley, Norris, Jean, and Cherry, as well as numerous relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and mother Myrtle Jones; his brothers Lloyd, Dwight, Donald, Erick, Bancroft; sisters, Carmel, and Pearl. A visitation will be held at Washburn-McReavy (Nokomis Park Chapel), 1838 E. Minnehaha Parkway, Minneapolis, MN on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, from 5-7pm. Celebration of Life service is Wednesday, June 14 at 11:00 AM at Bethel Lutheran Church, 4120 17th Avenue, South Minneapolis, MN. (Visitation will occur 30 minutes before service). A luncheon to follow at the church after the interment. In lieu of flowers, donations can also be made to the National Kidney Foundation or The American Cancer Society.
