Dr. Ronald E. LaBelle

LaBelle, Dr. Ronald E. Beloved husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully amidst family 5/19/16. Born 7/16/34 in Duluth, MN. Ron is survived by his "college sweet-heart" and wife of 58 years, Carole Ann Olson, daughters Laura Jensen (Jerry), Leilani LaBelle (Peter Lavanger), Linda Rowe (Skip), Liza Raulerson (Larry Ward); 10 grandchildren: Sara, Tom, Anna, Julia, Matthew, Alexa, Zachary, Madison, Chaz, and Lauren and 9 grand-dogs. Preceded in death by his parents Erving and Bess LaBelle. Ron was a renowned periodontist. He graduated from the U of MN with honors and was member of the national honor society Omicron Kappa Upsilon. He then interned at Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu, HI. He returned to Mpls in '62 where he began a private practice career and also began teaching and lecturing at the U of MN where he continued as a clinical professor until 1988. Ron was a gifted speaker and lectured all over the world including the Univ of Rome and Canton Univ. in China. He had a thirst for knowledge and continued to learn throughout his 40 + year clinical career, but his greatest joy was working one-on-one with each patient, many of whom considered him a friend. Beside his passion for dentistry, Ron was an avid golfer. He was a member at GVGCC for 50 years, Northland GC (Duluth), and Rancho Bernardo GC in CA. Just as he pursued knowledge of periodontics, he studied the intricacies of golf and taught/coached many people in the game, including his family, grandchildren, and anyone lucky enough to be at the driving range when he was. He was proud of his 7 holes-in-one. Ron managed to travel extensively with work, golf, and family. He never tired of learning about the world and loved sharing that curiosity and wanderlust with his family. Ron was passionate about many things, but his greatest devotion was to his family. Raising 4 daughters after being an only child gave him immense pride and joy, and he adored being a grandfather, as was evident by his wallet jammed with photos. Ron was a great listener and encourager and subtly passed on his passions to all his daughters. His beloved wife Carole cared for him during his "long-goodbye" and their shared love of family is firmly rooted in us all. Ron will be missed by many for his light-hearted sense of humor, the spark of his blue eyes and his contagious zest for life. Memorial services Friday, June 10 at 11 AM Calvary Lutheran Church GV.
