Ronald Knuth

Knuth Ronald Lindau Knuth A good, kind, and strong man has left us. Ronald L. Knuth died at his Minnetonka home, cared for and surrounded by his family on September 9, 2003, following a 3-1/2 year battle against cancer. He was 74. Ron was born in Lakewood, Ohio during the Great Depression on June 7, 1929. He entered this beautiful world on his mother's 21st birthday, a celebration of which he was always very proud. His mother was Alberta Grady Knuth, the last child in a large and wonderful Irish family. His father was Reuben L. Knuth, the son of Louis Charles, a Baptist Minister from Benton Harbor, Michigan, who married Dorothea Lindau of Rochester, New York. Ron was educated in Lakewood and went on to DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana where he swam on a championship team, and played varsity football. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity where he gained many friends who continue to this day. Upon graduation in 1952, he entered the U.S. Navy as an Ensign. During the War, he served in Korea and Japan and left the Navy in June 1955. Almost immediately, he sailed for Europe - a six weeks beginning to years of adventuresome travel - a love for which began then and never ended. Indeed, just three months before his death he toured his most loved place - The Chateau country of the South of France. When Ron returned from that first trip, he enrolled in graduate school, the American Institute of Foreign Trade, in Tempe, Arizona. Along with the MFT degree, he received the prestigious Barton Yount award as the outstanding student of his class. Jobs followed: He worked for Sterling Drug in Columbia and Mexico, returning to the States, he worked for Life Magazine in Florida, Atlanta, Chicago, with his wife, Carolyn Bauman. (They later divorced). They raised three children, Eric Knuth, born November 26, 1965, Susan Bruner, born August 30, 1967 and Charles Knuth, born April 16, 1970. All three survive him. He is survived by his only brother, Wally King of Bozeman, Montana and his wife Rose; by his children and grandchildren, Eric and Erika Knuth, their children, Robert and Brittany. By Susan Bruner and her son, Billy, and by Charles and Rebecca Knuth and their son, Jacob; and by his nephews, Tom King of Cary, S. Carolina and Corey King of Neptune, New Jersey. Ron held several jobs through the 70's - finally buying "Let's Go Travel" in Minnetonka in 1986.
